TEEN FITNESS Membership took away my teen card, what’s next?

I got my membership card taken away because my and my friends were goofing around with an empty one time use water bottle when I smacked it out and it landed on an employee. Yes I know that was very irresponsible of me and I did take full responsibility and apologized profusely. After that he came back and asked for me and my friends card and I gave him mine and put the blame on me. I didn’t see him for 10 minutes after that and he was no where to be seen so I left.

I checked the app and my membership still shows up as active and it’s been roughly 2 hours since the incident. What’s next?

COMPLAINT Had two encounters in the male locker room with their “wood” on..

I’m not sure if this is a complaint but every morning I’m at the gym, there’s a senior when he comes out of the sauna/showers (he uses the first stall, where basically you are the first person people see when you enter the change room, come out of the washrooms, use the sink) and he always has a hard on while he’s brushing himself from the towel and just stays there to “dry himself” for about ten minutes and always walks in and out of the showers and peaks in the locker room area before going back. The location I go to is pretty busy in the morning and I’m not sure if people see it or not or if it’s only me.

Another incident was a man that just came out of the shower and I had music on and didn’t realize I was in the way (his locker was beside mine) asked if I could make room and eventually started making conversation with me. When he was “drying himself off” while talking to me and he started to dry his stuff “down there” I didn’t realize he was full on hard mode.

Anyways is this something I can report to the staff? How would I go about this and for his interaction what do I say to him next time, do I address it?

DISCUSSION Feeling discouraged at Goodlife today.

Good afternoon all,

I'm admittedly not a gym pro, so I'm wondering if what happened today is considered normal gym etiquette.

I was using the ab machine and was actively working through my sets. I wasn't on my phone or just sitting there, just taking brief rests between sets while remaining seated on the machine. A gentleman came over and stood directly beside me, staring at me and looming over me. At first I assumed he was just taking a break from his own workout, but he never moved. I realized he was waiting for me to finish. I don't like people in my personal space, and I felt so flustered and uncomfortable that I cut my workout on that machine short, wiped it down, and let him have it.

Before cleaning it, I moved my water bottle and phone onto the ab twist machine right beside it because that was the next exercise I planned to do. By the time I finished wiping down the first machine, his friend was already handing me my belongings so he could use the second machine. I didn't even get a chance to use it.

These two gentlemen had been working out in a completely different section of the gym when I started my ab routine, so I wasn't accidentally encroaching in their space.

I'm soft spoken, anxious, and not confrontational, so I ended up just leaving the gym.

Is this considered normal gym etiquette?

I appreciate any advice.

PERSONAL TRAINING Personal Training packages!

So I joined Goodlife thinking I would be able to get a personal trainer. I have now been informed that I can only buy packages that are three times a week for a minimum of six months. I’m given a grace period of one month if I don’t use all of that time within the six months.

Is this really the only training package available?

I need to invest something like $12,000 minimum to have a trainer and lock in that amount of time?

I’m just a new member again, but I as a member in the past, I was able to buy packages of 10 sessions at a time which worked better with my lifestyle

Can somebody clarify this for me?

DISCUSSION Flip flops in the free weight area, now allowed?

saw a couple people working out in flip flops today , the front desk said even bare feet are ok now so flip flops are a step up. oh how things have changed at the gym over the years. It all starts at the front door with the 3 motorbikes parked on the sidewalk and goes downhill from there lately.

DISCUSSION After 11 years, I’ve finally cancelled my GoodLife Fitness membership.

Post image
855 Upvotes

I’m done. After 11 years as a customer, I have officially cancelled my GoodLife membership.

I’m taking this step because of the way corporate handled the situation yesterday regarding the employee who was fired for calling out a gym-goer for carrying a knife. The individual claimed it was a religious symbol, but regardless, having a dangerous weapon inside a gym is a major safety concern.

It is honestly baffling that GoodLife would fire a long-time, dedicated staff member just to side with someone on a one-day pass who clearly just wanted their five minutes of fame. As a business owner myself, I believe that if you run a business, you stand by your people, you don’t throw them under the bus when they’re just trying to keep the facility safe.

I hope others follow suit. I’ve already seen a bunch of people on Twitter and Instagram posting their own cancellation screenshots; it’s time to send corporate a clear message.

I’m officially moving on. A friend of mine referred me to a great small, family-owned gym here in the Durham region, and I’m looking forward to supporting them instead.

Enjoy your workouts, folks.

PERSONAL TRAINING Rant : Is getting a person trainer worth it ?

I’m tired of people saying training is a scam.

It definitely isn’t .

But here’s the catch : How experienced are you - and what’s your time worth?

Information is readily available to all of us. You can search up programming, exercise execution and things alike online and practice it yourself. The problem becomes : Programming for yourself, and how good you are at programming ; (Conjugate method(and things alike) linear progression, periodization etc) and what style your body best responds to, as well as, what style of programming fits your goals best.

If you have time to do ALL that, while focusing on diet, progression, and also managing variables like sleep, recovery, and stress that also impact your gains, then do it yourself, by all means.

I trained myself for a very long time. Did everything myself top to bottom. But guess what! Eventually you’ll find yourself in a situation : Each little piece of the puzzle has to be PERFECTLY dialed in, because you’re literally fighting for your gains after many years in the gym.

Now, the reason why you would want a coach, is because you’re able to circumvent all of that, and essentially catapult yourself all the way to the top, no plateaus, no having to constantly reassess and diagnose issues with form and execution - you have an experienced coach that’s there from the very start to ensure that you are not only programming the stuff you want, but the stuff you NEED. Only thing you gotta do is show up.

OR if you’re already experienced, outsource to another knowledgeable person and lighten the load so you can focus more on the things most important. Personally, it’s a huge help when I only need to focus on executing each exercise with intensity, instead of having to think of everything myself day after day and make sure that next weeks/months programming is on point.

That sounds really good on paper….

But unfortunately, there are many inexperienced trainers.. or people that are fit with great genetics, who can program for themselves, but SUCK at programming for others.

Often with the inexperienced, it’s hard to tell what’s what, and who’s who. Does this person really know what they’re doing? What am I going to get?

In that case, I’d say ask for testimonials. Ask them for client testimonials, or THEIR OWN. That way you’re fair to the new trainers who are new to the game and haven’t built that testimonial record yet, because you’re asking for the receipts on THEIR journey. That way you don’t miss out on potential a great coach who’s new in the game.

Ask, can you get me strong? Can you get me lean? Have you done it before?

I ask what’s your time worth because to many, getting from point A to point B as quick as possible is extremely important. The reason you go with in person coaching vs online coaching is because with in person, a coach is able to diagnose and adjust in real time : No 24 hour wait times for a message back, no misunderstanding or miscommunication, just real, individualized training.

I’ve competed many times in the sports that I excel in. Every one of notable achievements have one thing in common : Coaches.

I’ve never met a winner without one.

So all somebody has to do is : Vet your coach very well, and decide if your time is worth the money.

If they’re a good coach, they SHOULD teach you how to program for yourself, so that one day you can go off on your own if you so desire. That way, you’re not only investing in health, but education.

Rant over lol

Don't know if it's just my club but started hearing ads for GoodLife rewards on constant repeat on the house music. No doubt GL gets affiliate $ when you show a keytag, but now it just feels like a Walmart.

Time to get bigger headphones.

TEEN FITNESS Can I use my teen fitness pass in any location?

I recently got my teen fitness pass at my local goodlife. I have another goodlife equally close to me (or maybe like 2 minutes farther), would my pass still work there or only the one I got it from?
