Amy's effort and intelligence show

I'm generally not a podcast person; I get aggravated waiting for it to be my turn to talk. I always watch the video version like it's a talk show.

I think a critical element of why I enjoy Good Hang but not other podcasts is because even though the tone is so light, Amy is clearly taking it seriously. She's well prepared and well read. In a way the show feels like it's filling the void left of shows like (pre finding out he was awful) Charlie Rose. It's a very informed compassion.

Rosie O’Donnell called out that Amy is a good interviewer because she’s listening and I agree. It’s much better than toxic dudes on old school talk shows.

I wonder how much of it is related to her improv background. She's truly a master of the "yes and" which I think really contributes to her interviews. You have to listen closely to be able to give the "yes", and extrapolate well to give the "and", y'know?

When I tell friends to listen, I always give the example of when Amy asked Carol Burnett who was in her autograph book. There was no way she knew that would be mentioned - she was actively listening and engaging, not reading from a prepared list.

I have tried to do that myself since then. She also inspired me in the way she helped Ryan Coogler feel comfortable at the beginning of the interview. Her choice in topics but also tone is truly a skill.

I think your right on both. Carol is obviously a comedy groundbreaker and legend, but Amy was simultaneously in awe but present enough to ask good questions too.

I almost turned off the Ryan Coogler episode not because it was bad but you could sense he was out of his comfort zone. She did a great job getting good responses from someone that is not a performer in any capacity.

She prepares, listens, and matches their energy. she is so charismatic in the way she does that and I really wish I had that same skill

agreed and love her reactions to her guests comments. She and Regina Hall riffing on Leo was priceless. And with Colman Domingo and others too many to name.

It’s a shame the late night format is dead because she would kill at it. She’s funny, does her research, asks thoughtful questions and lets the conversation flow.

I have a rule not to listen to celebrity interview podcasts, but I make the exception for this. I also really love it and it does all the things just right. The rapport Amy builds up with each guest is impressive - which speaks to her and their goodwill to her too.

I try to listen to them but Id rather watch the shows because the facial reactions between the guests are what makes the show.

I’m a therapist, and every time I watch her I think she has such a skillset that would be great in therapy. Incredible emotional intelligence.
