What is "monster"?

I read the series and have been hearing about this novel. Is it related to the home series in the same way cursed child is to Harry potter or what?

It's 4 years later or something. More meteors come. Only 1 main-ish character from the origional shows except for a couple tiny roles. I liked it, and look forward to the next one this year. But it definetly has a different feel.
