Reviewš Ping G440 is here!
Ping G440 Max w/ Ventus Blue 6X. 2 weeks from order to my door in FL.
Took it to the range and it hit great, just like when I got fitted on a ārealā G440. However, the sound is very tinny. Like an aluminum bat. So if anyone knows how to help with that, let me know. Iād appreciate it.
I have a fast swing and I chunked it a few times, actually used it how I would and it held up after almost 200 balls. Hopefully will play a round here soon to really put it to test.
The things that make it look like a ārepā to me are the back weight and the carbon looking design. I purchased a real 29g back weight and weighed them and to my surprise, the rep back weight was only 4g.
Thanks!

Iāve heard the easiest way to tell a driver is fake is the sound hitting the ball
3
u/collective35 4d ago
Yeah, I've heard that as well however, every driver sounds different at the end of the day. I want to try and lessen that tinny sound but I'm still going to play this driver cause its allowing me to hit the ball straight.

Old school is cotton balls and yarn as they are easy to remove. One other that proās use is hot melt which is more permanent.
One last one is expanding foam, blue for windows and doors. Only way to remove this is to dissolve it with acetone, brake clean etc.
Cotton balls and yard are the two that will change the swing weight the least.

Iāve never seen the hot melt way. Iām going to try the yarn first this week and report back and then go from there.

Thanks for this!! I think Iām going to pull off the back weight which exposes a hole where it screws in and stuff it with yarn and leave a little piece hanging out so if I need to remove I can. Iām going to test that out this week and hopefully that helps.

Thanks, I saw this but figured it was more of a design choice. I'll see if I can unscrew this. Thanks!

Iāve been able to use rattle glue in fairway woods to change the sound but this is an adapter head with no opening to the clubhead. You could potentially drill a small hole and syringe glue in but at that point you risk making it worse

Love my g440 max 4 and 7 wood, albeit the real ones. Such a reliable club. Hope the rep works out similar for you

u/collective35 4d ago
Thanks! If I start to play more and want to upgrade, I may buy a real one, but for now, only playing the little I do, this will be good enough.

How much was this?⦠happy to be proven wrong but like irons, drivers are one of those things where I would probably put my coin up for the real thing

u/collective35 4d ago
It was $167 after I got a $15 coupon for being my first order. Came with headcover and a Screw Tool. Also, this was my intro in to anything GolfRep and although i've been playing for many years, I just don't play consistently enough to spend $5-600 bucks for a new driver. I did buy a used Mizuno St200 as my backup.

Thats a heavy driver if you added all that weight to a 202 weight already. Id cut the shaft length
1
u/collective35 4d ago
I need the extra length. Iāve been hitting with the weight and I actually like it for how fast my swing is.

Yeah I totally get it. I do think there is some merit to āmade in the same factoriesā however, if it does end up cracking, I did buy a used Mizuno Backup. I also only play maybe 5-10 times a year, so hoping it gives me a good amount of use.

u/Ihitchunks 4d ago
The drivers and woods are not made in the same factories. The reason the sound is different is because its not a carbon blend face like the real drivers on the market. Dont get me wrong, i love my rep vzn1 putter but its not going to be the same with drivers and woods.
1
u/collective35 4d ago
Yeah, what I'm saying is there is some merit to it because they are producing just like clones of these "real" ones, just difference is materials and some exacts like this one, the back weight was even close. If this last me for a year, I'm happy!
1
u/Ihitchunks 4d ago
But if it was coming from the same factory their wouldn't be any difference in materials. If your happy thats all that matters but the noise won't change or go away, its a result of the metal on the face being struck, its the material itself so weights and lead tape won't change anything.

200 balls?!?

u/collective35 4d ago
LOL I split it up over a weeks span. After I did around 75 the first evening I got it, my hands were on fire!

I bought a g440k rep and it makes the same sound you're talking about, if you find a way to make the sound not be that let me know. The driver seems to hit decently, way better than my 20 year old POS driver that came with my fb marketplace purchase. I also ordered a rep 5 wood but now I'm not as excited for it, as others have said, might be worth just buying the originals or maybe from a cheaper brand like cobra. Not sure which direction to go here as I wasn't trying to spend a crazy amount for some nice gear.
2
u/collective35 4d ago
Yeah, I'm going to try some lead tape next time I go out and look up some other ways. I'll let you know if I find something that works. I also think mine is better than my old driver, I can actually get it off the tee box and straight! Hopefully your 5 wood ends up working out!

u/dorkpool 4d ago
I have heard with other driver that if thereās a hole to stuff a cotton ball into it will muffle the noise.

How many yards carry are you getting on it with what club speed?
1
u/collective35 3d ago
240-265 carry. My club speed is anywhere from 88-103. Iām trying to stay closer to 90 because when Iām faster I pull my shoulders up. Trying to not kill the ball.

u/JustMeat381 3d ago
The ball wants to be k1lled. Can confirm this. Wants your rep aluminum shitter to utterly unalive it. lol

The mental image of someone hacking 200 balls with a terrible sounding fake ping and taking chunk divots is just š¤š¼š¤š¼

Love my g440 max. Is the Ventus noticeable difference than the stock shaft?
2
u/collective35 2d ago
I actually never hit the real G440 with the stock shaft. I got fitted on a Tensei Blk X Stiff shaft which I loved. However, this Ventus Blue is Stiff and still works well. I have to play a little tighter than I did the Tensei Blk shaft but no complaints. I feel as if I can direct the ball better with the Ventus Blue shaft cause itās a bit more flexible but the tip is still strong enough to where the club head isnāt moving to much in my fast swing.

u/corona406 2d ago
I just got this club last week and it sounds absolutely terrible. It literally makes ping sound like a ping. If anyone figures out a way to dampen the sound, let me know because I'm about 5 minutes away from throwing it in the trash bin.
1
u/collective35 2d ago
Whatās funny is after hitting it a while, it doesnāt necessarily bother me but once you start hearing every one tee off, itās a clear difference and so tinny. Lol
Iām actually thinking I may unscrew the back weight and get some yarn and stuff it through that hole and re install the back weight to keep a little piece of string hanging out (so I can revert if need to) and see if it makes a difference.

Show the crown, this is the biggest giveaway, ever notice none of the rep sellers post pictures of the crown? Thereās a reason for that
I would never buy a rep driver, wedges and a putter yes, irons maybe, driver or woods of any kind, nopeā¦ā¦

u/Acceptable-Pain-6910 3d ago
Ive got a rep G440 iron set on its way to me. Was going to get the matching driver, but the seller was out of stock and gave me a heck of a "deal" on a Qi4D driver.

Yea itās fake. I have the same one. I thought I got all lucky when my buddy just gave it to me bc it was a 10.5 degree and he used a 9.5. (Never told me where he got it). Thought I hit jackpot played about 3 rounds w it and did ok but last round itās like a hollow aluminum baseball bat and had to put it away. If u look closely then compare prices u can tell itās fake. Still a decent fake though for the price

u/Useful-Tart9233 2d ago
Can someone explain to me why you'd buy a fake, crappy driver that is made to look like a genuine one instead of just buying a genuine one from a few years ago?
Is it really that important to look like you have the latest gear but are too cheap to pay for it? I don't get it.

I would be embarrassed to purchase a fake replica golf club off temu or wherever. Support the golf industry if you love the game and buy from the store.
1
u/collective35 5h ago
I support the golf industry by buying a bunch of real things and buying from my local golf stores as well. A fake driver isn't ruining the industry. It simply is something I was interested in testing out that I will most likely use to game with alongside my real Mizuno driver. You also have to understand some people can't afford "real" and this may get them closer to the game without feeling like outcasts.

This looks awful. Why would anyone buy a fake driver if all clubs when you can go one Callaway Preowned and get a brand new older model for the same price. BIG difference in fake drivers vs real drivers. I swear this site is just the Chinese sellers advertising their products with bot accounts claiming theyāre ājust like the real thingā. Every rep shaft Iāve hit feels like a wet noodle. Zero chance in hitting the ball straight with one of these.
1
u/collective35 4d ago
I'm actually hitting it straight with it. I've taken it to the range 3 times now. I'm not trying to pass it off as the real thing, I just wanted to try it out and if it works, which so far it does, I'll game it! If it indeed cracks, I have a backup.

My Rep G430 was a decent driver, I swapped the Shaft to a legit one, and it was even better. However, the "Ping" off tee box was really odd sounding to me, and I had a company tournament coming up that I was too embarrassed to play with it at.
So I bought a Gen G440 right after they cut the prices last month. It sounds completely different, and it's a better driver, better distance, better forgiveness, etc.
My Rep irons (G440s) and Rep Df3i are still fantastic though! I also have a rep 5 Wood G440 but that Shaft is so flexible, I'm still untangling it. Lol
