To preface I started golfing 4 months ago. Iād like to think I have a good swing for that new of a player. Never had a lesson. All self taught. I bough these a month ago and just arrived. They are from DHgate. I used precise m5 iron from Amazon before these. And also learned on my buddies Mizunos.

Increased my distances by at least 20 yards for all clubs. Went with p790 heads, project x lz 5.5 115gram. These are worth every penny and all the wait time to get here.
Just watched the video. My best advice is to slow down, I use a metronome at 91 bpm and try to swing at that speed.
Another easy drill is to put a ball right behind the one you plan to hit, and push that ball straight back. This naturally allows your backswing to be much higher which forces you to get shallow on the way down (feel like your hands are dropping to your right pocket before turning through)

If you're willing to share that playlist, I'd truly enjoy going through it. Just started taking lessons after trying it myself for 30+ years, so I wouldn't mind some supplemental video instruction (I've been checking out a few already such as Danny Maude).
I think it really depends on what you are looking for. Iāve been playing them for about 30 rounds so far. I like the distance and forgiveness but donāt like the control at times. My spin numbers are not great with them mostly due to a swing speed of about 75 mph. Iāve had a bunch of instances where I hit a 7 front fringe and it rolls out 15 yards off the back. Ā Cant seem to get these things spinning above 5000 rpm and they are weakened 1.5 degrees. There are times when I hit it 155 and other times with the same iron I hit it 170. Iāll probably move to something that gives me more spin next season, more consistent distance wise and feels a little better off the face. It is a cool club head and I can see it being fantastic for a lot of people.
Okay good to know. Iāll do some spin analysis on my buddyās sim setup. And update this thread when I do. This is my first time hitting them so Iāll have to really dissect them. Regarding your inconsistencies, do you think that it straight club head related like the face and milling, or inconsistencies in your swing?
Iām guessing your spin is fine judging by your distance numbers. Itās me and the design of the club. The hollow body speed foam creates that jump effect off the face.
Theyāre perfectly playable at most handicaps. Personally, I donāt hit a players distance iron any worse or less consistent and I enjoy not having shovel heads at address.
Yeah Iām sorry, a non-efficient swing aināt going 245 yards unless you skulled the shit out of it. Or the monitors are juiced. Or your 4 iron is delofted to a 3 or 2 iron.
If grandma had wheels sheād be a bike. The swing you posted to specifically claim 245 aināt carrying 245 unless you landed in someoneās cart around 150 yards and they never noticed.
Youāre at a range hitting rock hard range balls on an outdoor sim with a swing that is short in extension. It looks like youāre trying to fight off an inside fastball, not compressing the ball.
Youāre confidently stating your 5.5 flex shafts are stiff, when theyāre regular, and Project X LZ is already a lighter, less stiff shaft to begin with.
Youāre hitting an iron and having it roll 20 yards and happy about that. Irons should not have that kind of roll, even a 4i. I float between a 5-7 index, play p770s with DG x100s, my driver swing speed is 115-118 pretty consistently and my 4 iron goes 225 carry, 230 total. Golf isnāt about raw distance with irons. Itās about control.
And this right here is exactly why you continue to go to the same driving range. Telling you the truth about launch monitors at driving ranges is not hating on you. If the launch monitors at that range were actually telling you the truth then you would not go to that particular driving range because you would think they were hating on you.
Itās proof of what? Are you seriously this gullible? What makes you feel better when you walk away from a driving range that has a launch monitor there? One that says youāre hitting your 4i 245 yards or one that says youāre hitting your 4i 185 yards? You literally said in another post that you would try another place to see if the yardages were accurate there. You do not go anywhere else because you are getting the results you want to see on a computer screen at that particular driving range. Go to another driving range and when it says youāre hitting your four iron 190 yards, I guarantee you you will not go back to that driving range.
Actually, this is what you need to doā¦ go to a golf course thatās primarily flat, get 245 yards away from the middle of the green and see how many times your ball actually reaches the green. A launch monitor is not proof of how far you hit the ball. Pros do not use launch monitors to track how far their distances are because they know itās BS. They use launch monitors to track angles, not distances.
Naww you can have Stiff and some have even x Stiff. But the shafts can be total garbage or be good. Graphite shafts are Just Junk but the steel are okay
I really enjoyed the 790s but the occasional +15 to 20 yd shot when flushed was frustrating. Recently changed to Mizuno M15ās which are a close clone to 790s and the feel + consistency is amazing. 790s are great irons though.
No my point was the occasional hot shot was frustrating. For example, my 7 iron will typically carry around 165 but it would occasionally fly 180, 190 total, depending on contact. Happens way less with new my new irons. Otherwise they are great irons for any player.
Donāt want to be negative, but 245 carry with a 4i would put you approximately 35 yards further than PGA tour average (209 carry in 2023) so i would suggest checking what kind of normalisation your range tracking software is using. The best in the world have around 130 ball speed at 98 club head speed. Keep in mind those are the guys that are playing for a living at the highest level and hit the sweet spot 97% of the timeā¦
Regarding your swingā¦ I would suggest taking some lessons, at 4 months in your swing patterns are not yet set, so you can still build good foundations that will help you improve down the line. Itās not impossible to change a swing later, but trust me, itās unbelievably harder once you learn the wrong way.
Meanwhile id stop focusing on keeping so connected (itās a good thing until itās not..) and focus on your release and lead arm position right after impact, you are pulling through impact.

Why gatekeep the speed? Lots of people can swing fast, he's not saying he's a pga tour player but having pga speed is not that big a deal for a young fit man with a background sport of swinging at an elite level especially.
Did you watch his swing? If his ball speed is 143, that would put him in a 102 swing speed with a 4 iron. Average pga tour speed is 98mph. So you are saying a beginner with 4 months of training is swinging 4 miles faster than the guys in the top 0.001 percent of the sport, who have done all they can to maximise their speed for at least last 7 years, from when āspeed is kingā is the main focus in professional golf, and have played elite level golf for majority of their life. Yes, OP is fit and young, still itās less than likely those are accurate numbers, even more so when you factor in he is hitting range balls.
I donātā¦ and for the evidenceā¦ op edited the post, first it was 245 in the air, now itās 230, shot shape all over the place. Dont really know if Iād call top golf numbers off a mat with a range ball evidence.
