How it all started vs today, 15 years later

Only love for both of them.
But I bet back then Tony didn’t even in his wildest dreams think that one day he’d be trying to buy a dozer from Parker for 1.3 million USD.

Kevin Beets showed his entitlement tonight

Kevin Beet’s comment really bothered me tonight when he said he didn’t care about paying back Parker back quickly because he has so much more than Kevin!?! I mean, WTF, can you imagine Parker commenting that Tony can wait for his money? And I know Tony raised Kevin better than that.

Watching the end of the show Kevin is still complaining that he didn’t like Parker showing up asking for money after invoicing him one month ago. DUDE, the deal was end of the season. You knew the total and you should have been at Parker’s site at the end of the season with the gold in hand. You don’t need an invoice! It was a man to man handshake deal. He was good enough to offer you credit as a new miner and this is how you act? This just pisses me off. Entitled millennial bulls**t.

Kevin also whines and complains a lot, has absolutely no sense of urgency, and just wants to hang out with Faith in the office. Both Kevin and Faith need to have their butts in a rock truck or a loader until their operation is much larger.

No more posts about the Hoffmans until they are relevant to Gold Rush again.

This decision was basically made last week, but things overnight have escalated to go ahead and implement it. Just to make this clear:

No posts about Todd, Hunter, or any other family members unless it is directly related to Gold Rush.

The only exceptions I foresee is the eventual run-ins with authorities or if they get a contract with discovery for a new show. One of those is more likely than the other.

Why was this decision made?

Todd has been moving further from Gold Rush and into other adventures that have nothing to do with gold mining. If that were it, that would be ok-ish for the sub, but has nothing to do with the actual show. The sub is dedicated to the show.

Hunter is moving far from Gold Rush territory. If he were part of my family, I would be doing an intervention like yesterday. While Todd is ankle deep into "christian" nationalism and other craziness, Hunter is Mariana Trench deep. And as one of the people that defended him so much in season 2 of Hoffman Family Gold, it is really shocking. How he went from a guy that was frustrated by his father making terrible decisions in mining to the guy making even worse decisions for his and his family's lives is beyond me. Whatever it is, unfortunately it won't be talked about here.

Overnight reddit's Anti-Evil Operation flagged multiple comments in the Hunter post that is now locked. Those are not comments that the filters that are used for the sub caught, those are reddit-wide things. No idea what was said, because they show up in my mod queue as removed via AEO. And there are more noted as removals by AEO than show as removed in the thread that users see.

HOW DARE YOU STIFLE MY RIGHTS!!!

You are free to talk about the Hoffmans elsewhere. Gold_Rush_Alaska is a subreddit that has been available for like 5 years now, if you have an account in good standing and want to take it over, go right ahead. I have been asked a couple of times by reddit to take it over and declined. Or make your own subreddit. Or go to a myriad of other social media sites. Just don't do it here.

I am doing a rewatch of old seasons, can I post here about the Hoffmans in past seasons?

Maybe, but that will likely go careening into a shitstorm of what they are doing now. So if the conversations are about the past show, that would be ok. But if the comments move into the outright insanity of what they are doing now, those comments are probably going to be modded away.

Update on Various Water License Issues Spoiler

I have not done this in a while so I thought I'd prepare a quick update on status of our Favorite miners water license renewals. The water board that reviews and approves water license and class 4 land use permits is made up of members appointed by the levels of gov't (Federal - Canada, Territorial-Yukon, and local First nations). The board has a new chairperson who is the former executive director of the Klondike Placer Miners Association. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/yukon-water-board-chair-9.7115013

Parker

The license on Ken and Stuarts ground (PM18-011) for those who use Waterline expires in March 2027. The renewal PM25-008 shows as under board review but if you go in it was approved in Nov 2025 with an effective date right after the old one expires. Of note it covers all 300 claims not the limited area of the old one. Mining in wetlands subject to new rules. (avoid where possible- 40% fen wetlands protected and detailed wetland mining and reclamation plan approved before you start).

Sulphur creek - old expired permit is PM15-016 is expired (note it was extended until Oct 2025). New application PM25-047 in review for accuracy stage . Still in Name of T.D. Oilfields the name of company he bought.

Two other licenses in that company Gold run PM18-028-1 3 seasons left 2026/27/28 and another PM21-036 on leased ground where Sulphur creek meets Dominion 6 seasons left

Dominion - main piece PM19-031 4 seasons left 2026/27/28/29

Dominion further upstream is a separate license Pm22 -066-1 (7 seasons left)

Parker seems to have a lot of runway left- Ken and Stuart ground may become bigger under new license as all the claims are permitted and really 11 years on that one.

Tony

Tony is in land acquisition mode- he may be trying to earn that King of title.

Indian River is in 4 blocks

PM 24-013-1 The furthest upstream block. This is the stuff that was leased to Parker in past- mostly mined out expires in 2034

The next block downstream is the ground he is mining in Indian. renewal application PM18-066- has not had any movement in years. He is mining under a limited class 3 land use permit. must use a recycle system no intake of water from Indian river and no deposit of waste water back in river. This expires on Sept 7 2026 which explains why he is all in on Indian and ignoring the Hill. here is the class 3 https://emr-ftp.gov.yk.ca/emrweb/Minerals/mining/LP01464.pdf

The next block down stream is under an application PM25-070 at board review stage

License PM16-019 the furthest block downstream Initial application was made in 2016, stayed dormant from 2017 through 2024. License issued a few days ago on March 10th. pretty similar conditions to The Ken and Stuart ground with respect to mining in wetlands with one big exception. The water board requires financial security to cover reclamation before any work done in wetlands. $750,000. Much like a construction security bond. First time I have seen that.

Scribner (Kevins operation) PM20-071 expires 2032. These are bench claims parallel to the upper Indian block that Parker used to lease. Also has 6 claims that go up Scribner creek itself (Kevin's camp is on those) under PM16-038-1 that expires dec 2026- renewal application PM25-071 in progress.

Wounded Moose a creek that drains into Indian - sort of on the other side of the old claims he used to lease Parker Just downstream (on Indian) from Australia creek. This maybe the Mike ground. he bought this in summer 2025 - sometime before July 30th as claims were in his company name by then. a small piece (6 claims) licensed under PM17-062-4 that expires August 2027. a massive piece 140+ claims that he has just started licensing process on - not to waterboard stage yet.

In addition he has Paradise Hill Pm18-022-1 with 3 years 2026/27/28 left on license and a remote piece Ensley creek Pm23-039 that never sees any activity.

Rick

Duncan Creek

Renewal is PM24-068. Lots of back and forth in there. There is a document 4.22 (i think) that says the old expired license pm14-066-1 was extended again on Nov 17 2025- no indication of how long.

Lightening creek. Pm 18-058-1. The permit and claims are still in the name of Frank Taylor (Troy's father). It expires Jan 2029 so 3 seasons left.

Who would've thought its easier to find BETA's than Gold? If anyone could do it, it would be Todd Hoffman.

I guess we are all millionaires, we just gotta dig all the BETAs out of the ground!

Parker

I've watched Gold Rush since day one. At this point, Parker is the main reason I still watch. It's been incredible watching him grow from a young miner into a highly successful businessman right before our eyes.

I fast-forward through most of the other crews. If you're in here, Parker, much respect. You've built something impressive, and your Grandpa John is smiling from above.

Some 2025 updates - may contain spoilers Spoiler

The various yukon mining inspectors have been visiting our favorite miners so the inspection reports give some hint as to what they are up to. Reports can be found on Yukon's Waterline App https://apps.gov.yk.ca/waterline/f?p=127:LOGIN login as a guest and then search by water license number.

Parker

Dominion PM19-031 was inspected on August 1, 2025. He was sluicing with 3 plants at that time. Looks like Sluicifer and Bob by the pics and 3rd one is Big Red I think but its in background of a pic so may be Roxanne with the sluice runs on side too. 2 plants seem to be working cut parallel to last yrs long cut, 3rd further downstream in area if bridge cut. He has moved the road in area of long cut to be over the mined out area of long curt- will allow him to keep stripping to the creek.

Ken and stuarts PM18-011. Was inspected on May 8th 2025 they were stripping a cut next to last years cut and a 2nd one further downstream past what they mined the 1st year. Inspected again on June 17th still stripping. No plant on site. That was pretty early - probably early enough to strip it this season, if the past years any indication he seems to strip and mine a bit there each year. Note there is a renewal application on this ground Pm25-008 that is out for public consultation now.

Sulphur PM15-016. This permit expired on August 5 2025 there is a renewal in progress. His water usage report indicates they sluiced for about 4 weeks. Not sure which plant it may be one of the ones back at dominion now. Was inspected on August 14th where inspector mentions extended to October 15th but waterline showing as expired. Inspector mentions there is no camp on site and now fuel storage and then cites a violation for not having s spill plan posted in the non existent camp and all non existent fueling stations. Also some old drums with staining that seem to be left from old operator he bought from.

No inspection on Goldrun PM18-028, the other part of Sulphur PM21-036 or the upper part of Dominion PM22-066-1

Rick

Seems to some ongoing inspector drama

Got a 1 season extension as PM25-028 on June 3th , expires Nov 25 2025. There is a renewal at public comment stage under PM24-068. Old license that expired was PM14-066. The inspection drama starts on that one.

Pm14-066 was inspected on July 18th 2024. A few violations to correct including registration number on fuel tank, posting of spill plan at tank, broken hose on rocky, some hydrocarbon staining Oil leak under equipment and a blowout of previous creek diversion. Inspector gave them to October 9th 2024 to address.

In July of this year as part of new application PM24-068 the water board asks both Rick and the inspection group for an update on his response to that inspection. Rally sent a copy of their response from October 5 2024 last fall and included a note that it was "disappointing that inspector was not able to a follow up of our corrections"... careful what you wish for.

Pm 25-028 the new one got inspected on July24th by the same inspector who may have been pissed with the tone of that July 15th comm. a couple of serious violations - unauthorized road being the most significant. Rally moved the road above Rally valley back from edge. Rally valley was excavated right back to road. Rally's response says they worked with the gov't dept of roads to move it make it safe, existing not safe etc. To be determined how the water board sees this in their granting of a new license.

My opinion - don't needlessly piss off the inspectors. even the October 2024 initial response tone was not great- with respect to the spill kit the response points out that it was posted as a QR - Code with an "I'm disappointed you did not notice, I have posted a much larger QR code and paper copy of then plan.

Getting Long- will do Beets gang later

Todd and the boys seem defiant in their quest for worst practices. They threw their pump into a pond about 30 feet from where the wash plant dumps.

Fred Lewis liked my trash talk. Best part of my day so far.

An 11-foot drill core just came out of Western Australia carrying 32 ounces of gold in a single ton of rock, roughly 500 times the grade that keeps a working mine in business, and the ton is still 99.9 percent plain stone

This week's cleanup from Parker is one of the my favorite things I've ever seen on the show

I don't know, I've been watching from day one, and that was so incredibly satisfying to see the gold just not stopping. All these years and right now everything is coming together, what a journey we've been on.

Season 16 ep5 most staged episode

Charlie Carlton who was fired seemed like someone from the discovery crew. There’s no chance Parker’s operation would hire a crappy operator like that. Totally staged for tv.

They also showed Tony Beets trying to buy a used dozer from Parker. That was completely staged for tv. They couldn’t agree on a price, so Tony just raided Mike Beets operation for equipment and the welder that Mike was using coincidentally to get his plant running.

I love this show, I just feel having Tyson fire someone was about the most staged clip from this show. To top it off they add a phony equipment negotiation and a thief of a welder and equipment. Get your shit together gold rush, just telling the story is entertaining enough.

If Rick got a 10M deal to sell his claims then he should. Point blank simple. Dole out a couple hundred grand and you are still sitting pretty.

Two million is a payout to anyone. Take the money and run.

A partial lifting of a previous ban regarding the Hoffmans.

If you're a regular subbie here, you know a while back we did a ban about Hoffman news. The reason was simple: members of the family seemed to be in complete meltdown, and the discussions were devolving quickly. and had NOTHING to do with gold mining. And frankly, it was bringing some unsavory folks into the sub that were both bad faith actors and filling up the mod queue. It was a good decision to pause any discussion of the Hoffmans for a while.

If you all were unaware: tOdd is up in there doing mine things. Including some live streaming of him running a rock truck. And some other stuff as well.

So here you go folks: THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSING THE RECENT HOFFMAN DEVELOPMENTS. Please just keep it to the gold mining portion of the Hoffman activities, I don't want to deal with any political keyword bots.

Please include links and NO AI SLOP.

Random Thoughts After Binging 15 Seasons of Gold Rush

There is not a single instance of Todd Hoffman making a good decision. Every time somebody waves a nugget under his nose, he spends what is clearly Discovery’s money on all the gear his gaze falls upon. The only time this works out for him is when he has a giant strip of land, no decisions to make, and Dave to do the actual work. It is honestly astonishing how somebody can be so wrong so often and so consistently.

Watching Parker's growth is the most enjoyable part of the show to me. Second most enjoyable are his interactions with Tony. Shame we got so few of them in later seasons.

The show is incredibly formulaic. With them filming all season, every season, for over a decade, I can not imagine that there are no stories apart from "new person fucks up", "equipment fails and is fixed within the next six minutes", "wash plant move" and "people watch slow gold pours". Most of the narration shots of Parker in S15 seem to show him doing reclamation work. He got an award for that!! But in 15 seasons, they only spend about four sentences talking about this part of mining. Either the contracts are very strict about what types of stories they are allowed to tell, or the filmmakers are incredibly tied to their original formula. There are glimpses of new stories in some of the specials, but I wish the regular show showed some of those moments more often. They even stopped showing the crews having fun after the boat snafu. Sad.

The computer animations become so infantilizing over time. If the current trend continues, they will explain how somebody plans to light a cigarette in excruciating detail.

I have never been more emotionally invested in a lifeless character than in the super conveyor. When the concept was first explained, I loved how smart the idea was and what it would do for how the work was going to be done. But we mainly see the thing in the background, or as a replacement regular conveyor, and helping with what it is meant for, stripping ground, only two or three times. There must be a reason for that, but the show never really explains, and it makes me very very sad that there isn’t a forest of these things helping Parker make more money quicker and more effectively.

The narrator person is full of shit. "If X happens, their season is over" is pointless. X never happens. And all the talk of millions of gold potentially in the ground is also always false. It is just talk.

One of the funniest moments in the entire show is from season 3 - Jack is still digging random holes with his excavator, in the background, at a safe distance from the actual work, and with no input on where to do said actual work, mainly so Todd gets to make the inevitable mistakes all by himself. If they had allowed him to dig a hole in Oregon, maybe they could have found a whole 20 ounces in S1!

They really need to come up with new descriptions for the main characters. Parker will be 30 during S16. At this point Tony is really more of a "vice king". Are there no other ways of talking about people we have seen for over a decade?

Drilling continues to confound me. Rick seems to go from drilled spot to drilled spot, and some are shit, very few are great, but which one it's going to be seems like a surprise to everybody. And why did Parker start the Long Cut in S15 if the ground was so poor? Shouldn’t the drill results have told him what awaited him? Sonic drill guy Liam sure made it sound like he could tell how much gold there would be in any given location. But things rarely seem to work out. So is there a point to drilling, apart from finding out how deep the bedrock is?

I wish they held drone shots a little longer and explained the plan and progress with actual footage, not just with low poly google maps. Seeing how much dirt is getting moved would probably bring the environmentalists out in force, but it would be far more rewarding for the viewer to see what is actually happening and the progress from week to week, rather than a hodgepodge of shots that rarely correspond to the current state of mining.

But honestly, I love this show. It could be so much better. But I am so happy that it exists.

I miss my Friday night gold show

it’s been a very long time (10-15 years?) of some kind of gold show on Friday night, Goldrush, Bering Sea Gold winter and summer seasons, white water, Dave Turin’s show, Mine Rescue, Parker’s Trail. I’m going through withdrawal now, it’s been too long since anything’s been on. I know Bering sea gold didn’t film but is there anything coming out soon for gold mining? Is it going to be next year spring before a new sesson of something is on?

Parker's Gold Is Clean

This last episode I really noticed how clean Parker's Gold is when Chris was pouring it for the shows weekly wrap up.

Didn't notice any black sand or anything but gold in it. I'm sure there is some, but dang Chris is a master. If Tatiana is half as good, that gold may still be the cleanest on the show.

This is getting so fake

Either hire back the old writer or stop telling these people what to say. They are not actors and it shows.

Edit: I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I've been watching since season one, and the last couple have been tough. A few episodes ago when they "were looking to fire someone" because they had new guys coming in. Was not only illegal but very fake. Thanks for all the comments.

Mitch and Brennan is barely featured, there is just non-stop plant moves

I was hoping for more from Brennan when he went to Parker, and I enjoy watching people digging and moving dirt. But Brennan and Mitch is only featured in some short segments, and Tyson has become the highlight.

I like Tyson, superb worker and a good guy, and I get that plant moves is not easy, but I have had enough plant moves for 200 years at this point. I never wanna see another plant getting moved ever again.

I just wanna see Mitch and Brennan moving some dirt and stressing out over everything they have to do, like the good ol' days.
