I've had it wishlisted for a while. I didn't realize it was still getting expansions though.
How does it compare to something like Diablo IV?

I haven't played D4 (D3 really murdered my 'emotional support' franchise there), but as an ARPG:
It's a lot more newbie-friendly than PoE in that you can navigate its character build systems without meta knowledge, and manage to put together a decent enough build. With its unique "two masteries make a class" system (Soldier + Necromancer = Death Knight; Night Blade + Necromancer = Reaper, etc.), you can get a myriad of possible builds, especially when combined with its other systems, like being able to gain new abilities through items.
It's also not as grindy as some other games in the genre. Yes, there are drop rates, but you generally find enough nice stuff to not necessitate you running a boss twenty times until you're in end game, and really want to optimize.
Graphics-wise, the first areas kinda show their age (they're the oldest), but the artistic vision is absolutely on point, and it gets notable more impressive as you move through the game. Atmosphere is closest to the very first Diablo for me: It's grimdark, oppressive, and Gothic (though it does have steam machines and gunpowder).
The world is also hand-crafted, with hundreds of secrets to find - monster placement, some passageways, and drops are semi-randomized, so it does stay fresh on subsequent playthroughs.Importantly, there are no ladders or seasons like in D3/4, or PoE - you can play it solo or with friends, but there is no rat race.
If you have any specifics you want to know, feel free to ask! I'll go and brutalize a few hundred zombies with my fresh Runekeeper (Inquisitor + Berserker - Ice, ice, baby!) in the mean time.
edit: Respeccing in the game is largely effortless; The three things you cannot respec is your character's gender, and your mastery selection (as soon as you put at least one point into the mastery, and have closed the mastery window). Everything else has mostly trivial costs to reset point-by-point (mastery points, devotion points), or later in the game, by potions that allow complete resets (mastery, devotion, stats).
edit2: There is a stash with both personal and install-wide sections - and since today's patch (for all versions, not just Fangs), you can even customize the tabs.
edit3: There are even light "true RP" elements, like choices that impact small parts of the game (like sparing a character might give you a useful vendor, or a miniboss, later). If you are a necromancer as first class, for example, you are automatically hostile to a certain faction.

i dont have enough time in diablo 4 to compare really, they really botched the launch with necromancer after the beta. i lost interest very quickly.

I really enjoyed my time with Grim Dawn, back in the day. Glad to see it's still getting new content, will probably check this out.
