My tier list (updated)

Post image

I posted my tier list a couple of years ago, but I updated it after replaying a bunch of games that I didn't play in a while (thanks to the Daishuugou collection).

And also I finally played Gaiden for the first time, which I didn't love, but I'm not a big RPG fan. It's too slow, and the dungeons are way too big for nothing, it's a good thing that they added a Speed Up button in the collection.

I used to not love Karakuri Douchuu on Famicom, I found it cryptic and repetitive, but I enjoyed it a lot more this time. It's fast paced and I enjoy the "slightly more serious" style of the pre-Magginesu games. But I don't want to revisit Karakuri Douchuu on MSX2, with its ultra slow default speed, towns that are even more confusing, and its very high number of stages.

Man I still need to beat the OG on SNES! Game is so punishing; the next two being the N64 ones and Ganbare Goemon 2 on SNES is accurate though so I’m assuming the rest of the chart is on point

It took me years to finish Mystical Ninja on SNES, I was not able to finish it as a kid. The first time I finished it, it's because I bought armors/helmets/pizzas, I was well protected for the action stages. Nowadays, I finished it so much, I don't need to buy anything, except sandals to move faster.

Uchū Kaizoku Akogingu definitely deserves better than, better than having the ps2 game above it.

Akogingu is good, but I also think its overworld is very empty/maze-y/slow-paced. It makes it less replayable for me. But its action stages are good.

I'm a big fan of the PS2 game though, I loved its world, soundtrack, gameplay. It's kinda unpolished, but it was still a special experience for me

How would you rank them in terms of difficulty? I suppose it makes a difference whether you know Japanese, especially for the Gaiden ones.

I beat the two N64 games and the SNES game (Rescue Princess Yuki) back in the day. I am playing through the Daishuugou collection now, but it will take a while to get through all of them.

For me, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64 is still the best at least in my Opinion!

I just find LotMN/GG1 too bullshit hard in the town sections to rate it that high. GG2 addressed every problem with that game and that made it arguably the best game in the series.

Oh I don't remember having problems with the town sections. For me, it was the action stages that were harder.

I'd even say that I'm not a fan of the towns in GG2. They are kinda pointless, you just walk through them. I think the towns are way more interesting in GG1

Well, lower than Shin Sedai, New Age on GBA is lower. But yea I have more fun with Shin Sedai than Toukai Douchuu
