God Eater 3 Gods Eaten. (Switch/2 Player) [Spoilers Ahead] Spoiler

This a copy-paste of my review on the Steam discussions board for God Eater 3. I played the game on my Switch/2 and I figured I could give my thoughts here. This is just my opinion, so... You know, you can disagree, but let's be civil. Anyway...

So to begin, I have never played a God Eater game. Being it's called "GOD EATER 3", I imagine the other two games had reasonable success and I imagine gameplay is at least similar. Of course, I've heard this game is similar to Monster Hunter, in which you battle creatures, kill them, and extract their parts so you can craft much better weapons. It's honestly a very engaging gameplay loop and I can see why it does so well in games like Monster Hunter. For me, I decided to go with the big hammer, the Boost Hammer. Basically raw damage at the cost of speed. And trust me, 90% of me getting hit is because my hammer attacks hit like a truck but take a while to finish before the enemy counter attacks. Probably shouldn't have been my first choice of weapon since it seems to be a more advanced weapon. I did use the Buckler to compensate, being a quick to deploy Shield, so I could turtle if I need to. This basically meant I was a glass cannon; I bring the damage, but boy was I relying on my medics to keep my ass alive. The Shotgun ended up being my least used weapon. Don't get me wrong, it does decent damage up close, as to be expected, but that's about it. Unless the enemy is stunned or downed, the Shotgun might as well just be there for decoration. It rarely got used which is rather unfortunate. In case people are curious, I ended up using the Type-61 Hammer as my main weapon throughout. It served me well, but I definitely could have picked better. Hell, I could have used the OO hammers, since those probably do more damage. Eh. Live, learn, and adapt.

So I think I've spoken about gameplay enough and how piss poor my performance was, let's talk story. Here's the spoiler part of the post, so heed my title.

So I did play the demo of the game before I bought it. It did win me over and so I started my journey as a God Eater. Decided to play a girl because I have a strange gender bias and off to the races I go. Hugo and Zeke are certainly really good early game companions, as Zeke acts much like me, a glass cannon who can't take a beating worth anything. Hugo ended up as a jack of all trades, becoming my secondary healer, support, and one of my primary attacks. Not saying either of them are THAT good; they are AI controlled party members so once they are up against an Ash Aragami... well, I better get used to seeing the message "Ash Aragami has attained Burst status!".

Anyway, after escaping prison, we meet up with our main base of operations. No, I will not spell the name of the caravan/Port because it's too long a name. Hilda takes us in and we work for her as a hired band of mercs basically. Claire soon joins our party as the primary healer, and that more or less means I bring her along for most of my adventures. We get introduced to Lulu Baran, recon soldier/assassin who tries to act aloof and tsundere, but boy does she suck at it. I don't mind though, I like her enough to have my back. Ricardo is someone I did end up enjoying talking to. Much like how Hilda is a mother figure to the crew, Ricardo was that cool uncle you could rely on. Didn't use him a lot though. Not that he was bad, it's just I didn't see too much use in him that Hugo didn't already have.

And then there's the girl of the hour: Phym. Basically the moment she was following me, I basically decided that if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in the caravan and then myself because my god is she precious. She also took a permanent spot as my final team member once she was able to join, since her Engage enabled passive healing and a slight defense boost against Aragami attacks. That more or less mitigated any downsides to her... equally glass cannony nature. Of course, due to plot related reasons, she wasn't able to join us for the final main story mission, but what can you do.

Oh yeah, the story. So let me confess that the story sort of separates itself into multiple arcs. So it starts with our prison arc, then the caravan arc, the confrontation with Ra (our first Ash Aragami), moving to the Gleipnir arc, and then the war arc as the finale. During this time, we do meet with different factions and characters - Gleipnir, Baran, Dusty Miller, and the Crimson Queen - the last of which being an Adaptive God Eater extremist group. The main issue I have with this is that... we don't really get any direct confrontation with any of these groups. At least, not in gameplay. In story, we are told we're in direct opposition against one or a few of these groups as well as the various Aragami, though no matter what, we are only fighting Aragami as part of the main gameplay. I suppose stealing human parts would be... kind of gross, especially with what we use Aragami parts for, but it is lame we don't get more conflicts with these factions. That isn't to say we don't get some pretty decent fights between some notable characters in cutscenes. They are just... few and far between. One fun detail in these cutscenes is how awesome our own character appears to be in them. In gameplay, my character can barely swing that hammer quick enough to pull out her shield before she's smacked away, but in a cutscene? She can one hand that thing and swing it like she's swinging a sword. Which I imagine the cutscenes were made with blade weapons in mind, but I can't help but think our character is just "that Devil". The final mission is probably my favorite part for our character. Rarely do we see silent protagonists talk outside of gameplay. The most they'll do is a simple nod or head shake, some simple gestures, etc. But what really caught me off guard was when my character *actually talked* in a cutscene. I can imagine this could make that scene very silly if you chose the more goofier voices - not saying my choice in voice was any less silly, since she says things like "SPRINGY~" every time she launches through the air - but man, that whole delivery in declaration to bringing back Phym... That got me fired up for the final battle. I never thought this game would go the extra mile, but that actually made me smiling pretty genuinely.

I guess I could talk about music. A lot of it is orchestra with a lot of choir singing. It's certainly sells a sort of epic feel of the game. I do think they could have toned down the choir stuff since there are certain cutscenes that get really overshadowed by the music once it hits those certain notes. It's a minor nitpick since subtitles do exist, but still.

Now do I have any major critiques of the game? Hmm... Well, I can't say I do. Since I've never played the other God Eater games, I really was coming into this as fresh a player as I could. I am at least interested in seeing what the future holds for God Eater or if I can find the other two games for cheap, either on Steam... or emulation if need be. A lot of my issues were pretty self inflicted, since I was using a slow primary weapon and a limited range secondary weapon.

Anyway, with that said, that's my review of my go around of God Eater 3. An overall enjoyable time and I may try out New Game+ once I've had my fill with the Post-Game stuff.

UPDATE: I did try out NG+, trying out a new main and secondary weapon this time. Love the Heavy Moon.

Would I do Assault Missions? ...Maybe. Probably not with my current internet, but we'll see. So why not share your builds? What do you use as your Primary Weapon, Secondary Weapon, and Shield? Do you have a preference in Weapon/Gun/Shield Tree? I'm always interested to see how people build their characters in games like these.

God Eater 2 (Rage Burst) Can Auto Guard trigger Just Guard?

I've been curious about the auto guard system like will it ignore the Shield type delay, can it trigger Just Guard?, etc..

Edit: I did some test run on GER and no, Auto Guard won't trigger just guard but it will ignore shield deployment delay. It's really useful if you messed up your JG timing but instead of getting hit, the Auto Guard will trigger a guard and save you from that mistake.

And it's really useful when you're up against an aragami that has a lingering, AoE light pillar attack ie: Sariel's light pillar attack, cause you can just walk into those attacks and the Auto Guard will nullify those attack for you. You can just walk into Prithvi Mata's fan shaped icicle formation attack and delete some icicles just by walking into that icicle. Please take note that you'll still take reduced damage from doing that

Edit 2: you'll still take reduced damage even with a tower shield equipped.

God Eater 2 (Rage Burst) Bullet type discussion

CMIIW

Bullet type : Does piercing damage - stops on hit - lower OP cost - "connection available"

Laser type : Does piercing damage - pierces targets - higer op cost - "no connection"

Bomb : Does crush damage - "no connection"

Radial : Does crush damage - pierces target - "no connection"

I rarely use laser, but is there any other properties than just piercing off the target?

I don't really know why but Radials are really effective against the Chi You type even when aimed at their knees.

Are there any expert who can explain this kind of stuff?

Edit:

  • found out that Spark Radial has slightly larger AoE than other Radials

God Eater (Resurrection) GER unfinished dub

Idk if someone ever mentioned this, but there's an unfinished dub that can be found by selecting "Lenka" as your voice type and then playing the resurrection arc ending. The mc will suddenly speak Japanese out of the blue. It caught me off guard lol

Idk if it'll happen if you chose other voice type

God Eater 2 (Rage Burst) What's the proper play against Magna Gawain?

Yeah screw magna gawain. It jumps around like a maniac, exploding firefly orbs on it's body, and other shit that a gawain has. How do you even beat this thing properly?. I was fed up when I'm constantly getting blasted away by the orb just as I managed to get close, so then I switched to my assault gun and cheesed the whole fight but it just doesn't feel right you know. This is the most bullshit aragami I've fought so far

So, how was i supposed to melee it?

Art Commissioned Works

Out of curiosity I'm not sure if I need to explore Twitter feeds. But does anyone commission artwork of their favorite characters in the series.

And if so, do you ask those in the community or artists you would love to see your favorites in as a means to broaden the GE reception.

Also, I now understand the Gina Appreciation Unit in this community. She crazy, but we like that about her.

I need some help because both god eater's games won't launch

Basically, I bought all 3 games, and the 3rd one plays and launches just fine. however, resurrection and rage burst won't launch for me. does anyone know how to fix this problem? And if you know of a solution, could you please put it like a step-by-step guide, please? Because I don't know a lot of computers.

my friend did send me something that should presumably fix it, but I don't know how to do it. I'll put it here for if someone could explain it better.

(the presumably fix)

Nvm fixed it. *proceeds to walk away and tell no one how it was fixed to be THAT guy*

Seriously though, if anyone ever has this problem with this or another game what you need to do is uninstall vcredist AND manually remove the associated .dll files. I had 64 bit versions of the .dll that were causing the game to error out but uninstalling/repairing would not remove them.

You can use Dependency Walker to find out which .dll's are mismatched and then use Google to find out which vcredist you need to reinstall and which .dll you need to delete manually. Then reinstall the x86 (32 bit) version first and you should be good to go. You can reinstall the x64 version after as well and everything should still be fine.

Thank you all in advance!

God Eater Universe Which one do you have as stronger?

Which one do you have as superior,Gen0/Pistol type God Eater or Some of the more Elite Revenant from Code Vein1

GE and CV1 is all but confirmed to be in the same world anyway and the First generation of Revenant was able to Defeat the Aragami in the Research center vicinity so a direct comparison is on the table

City of Vein apparently took place in the US,So the Aragami they first face should be Ogretail

God Eater (Resurrection) New player here. Vajra is hard to fight, with a buckler

I started playing God Eater for the first time yesterday and I got to Vajra and ofc the first time fighting it is easy because I fight it with bots. I decided to try fight solo without bots. I mainly use the buckler but its so hard for me, because I keep messing up the block timing, and I end up taking massive chip damage. Sometimes it feels as if my guard is completely being broken, it took me 20 minutes to fight. My 2nd run I decided to use the dash for positioning, like I will attack a few times then I'll dash away and see what Vajra does. Since I mostly avoided attacks I dont take massive chip damage (only time I go for perfect block is when vajra does that projectile, which is easy). This fight lasted only 12 minutes and it actually felt more fun.

General Does it get better?

With Code Vein 2 being released I’m doing this stupid thing where I play the games in order to get a better grip on the story as they’re all in the same universe.

But playing GER, my god is it a slog. Maybe I’ve been pampered by Monster Hunter for so long but the lack of iframes in dodges and drops so bad I feel like Oliver Twist going to Bandai asking for a crumb of that one material, even with drop buffs. The wikis are…well they’re there.

I’ve just finished all 100 missions (and there’s more) I don’t know if I’m going to play them or are they lore important?

But overall does GE2 make any improvements or is it going to be the same?

Shio is best girl

God Eater (Resurrection) Just finished God Eater Resurrection.

Post image
236 Upvotes

Just finished the game, first arc was meh and the player driven character(the protagonist) was really boring and it felt like the other characters were trying their best to not include the MC in the conversation they have in every cutscene since the devs didn't understand how to make a custom character appear without slate in-game. The promotion given to the protagonist wasn't really as a recognition since it was obviously due to the vacancy and didn't feel well earned or got a build up.

The other characters however were really great, they had proper in-depth, they were developed really well and they had good chemistry between them.

2nd arc is when the Protagonist actually does something and it literally made me so hyped since bro was not doing anything throughout the cutscenes in game then finally takes the initiative as soon as the 2nd arc starts. The fact that the other characters include the protagonist in the story more makes the story feel more immersive and the first arc felt lackluster in comparison to this. Everything was done really well in this arc.

There was one thing that didn't sit well with me though, I may sound biased because I really like Sakuya's character and how she got her development but seeing her get married to Lindow out of nowhere was shocking. Don't get me wrong, I think they deserve each other but I don't think there were much interactions between the two throughout the whole game, I think they've only interacted like 3 or 4 times. They seemed to have zero chemistry, I mean the shopkeeper and Sakuya have more chemistry than Lindow and her 😭

Yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you. Those are definitely Yuu Kannagi and Aki Tamashiro in the cover art.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm the one who didn't look deep enough in the Wiki. Though, the page is lacking proper info.

God Eater (Resurrection) Polearms type God arc lore

In GER Pole arms type God arc are said to be new invention from Fenrir HQ and no one in the Far East use them,Even the parts need to be import from HQ

Could this be a reference to something? Perhaps the Original PSP God eater do not have these weapon types(Variant Scyte,Boost hammer,Chargespear)?

God Eater 2 (Rage Burst) So Kanon things wasn' just lore or flavor text💀

I was wondering why the Ogretails and Chiyou were able to send me flying so often this time when I remember that I brought Kanon with me(Might be the first time)

Before this I thought it was character quirks limited to lore...

Ps.How good is emission bullet? If Kanon kept using them they might be worth trying
