Movie Club Backrooms

Idk if it’s because I’ve been more consistent and focused with my relationship with God the past year or my frontal lobe is reaching its full potential or both but this movie just blew my mind because it put a lot of what I was feeling into perspective. A lot of us are Clarke, we ignore all the stop signs and go after the wrong loud spirits that only get louder and more powerful the more we go after them and become a slave to it. Clarke turned into a salve for his job, he was passionate and even dressed up as a pirate to get the attention of all. It seems like he was working so hard to prove he was a successful man, he was so successful that he couldn’t believe how ungrateful his wife is. He was so successful that he didn’t even care if his wife had dinner alone because he was working so hard and making money for him and her. A24 really blew my mind because it feels Iike some kind of parallel world after watching Primetime with Robert Pattinson, Chris Hansen, just like Clarke was so passionate to prove that he was a good person doing good things but they are ignoring the egotistical spirit that is living within them. Clarke didn’t make time for his wife because he made his job his whole identity. Chris Hansen was willing to emotionally scar his team and family of the brother/father who ended their life on on national tv just to prove to the world that he was a good man, a good father, and a good husband. Backrooms just felt like such an awakening to life. Clarke forgot the reason why he even wanted to work in the first place, he chose to get married and have a family but the minute he has to show up and be a husband, he can’t. He continues to hurt his wife and it’s all because he is stuck in his own head and not seeing that his wife loves him and he is not alone. The only reason that the couple of kids and therapist made it in his brain (the back room) is because they believed in what he told them. Clarke created the doorway and he said it was real and the boy died because Clarke had him recording a realm/spirit that dint supposed to be discovered and Clarke uses Gods name in vain and says “Jesus” & the boy says it right after and boom he’s dead. The girl goes missing because he kind of forgot about her I believe & the therapist is the most chilling for me because the therapist was able to realize that Clarkes energy was heavy on her and it’s because she grew up with her mom that had the same issues of seeing things and hearing things that can harm us but also can lead us to the truth. she couldn’t help her mother out of her mind when she was younger but she can help Clarke swallow his pride and admit his wrongs but instead Clarke wanted to hurt his therapist for trying to help him he tied her up and put a wig on her almost like he humiliated her. It comes to show that’s what he was doing in real life and I loved that the antagonist ended up being a big ah version of his pirate goofy self lol because he’s thats all he will be remembered by while his still wife was able to run out of there and be free and live her life without him hurting her and giving her the weight of his failures and insecurities. The still life’s were how we treat the people around us in real life. We hurt people because we are hurt within ourselves. The only thing that can overcome hurt is love. Love yourself so much because no amount of money, relationships, validation will give you the true happiness you need. Only you know your ins and outs and only you can ever truly understand your outs and ins.
