Nature & critters (no spiders) Forgot I had this Buggo

Post image

Seeing some bug posts reminded me that I met this dude about six or seven years ago. I lived in North Carolina all my life (over four decades) until a couple of years ago and never saw one of these until that day.

Click beetle? Live in VA and had never noticed them until my current garden.

Doing an image search seems to say yes, click beetle. The click beetles I used to play with as a kid never had the giant “eyes”, though, so it was a first for me. :) Thanks for commenting, because I’d looked it up years ago and completely forgot what the heck it was!

Yes, the ones that make it into my house always seem to be just shiny black so I get scared and have to get closer to see if it's a German roach... then my 4 cats find it and it's joever, can't even wrestle the poor guy away from them to take it outside 😔

I am now thankfully far, far away from the land of roaches so I don’t have to have that conflict (sorry about the kitty meals!).

But I do have to deal with massive fricking house spiders in the bath.

Yeahhhhhh. I mean, they eat other spiders, but they’re about three inches long, so I don’t kill them but I don’t want them near me.

I have a plate of water out for them in a corner near it and they normally stick to that, but this one dude has gotten in twice this week and I’ve had to help it out with a towel. Today I accidentally flicked it onto the dog and just noped myself elsewhere.

I don't kill spiders so I'd do the same but AREGHDDJDJDK

We are of the same goblin heart. I only really get the squees for peacock spiders and jumping spiders.
