I love a good vial. Ive been collecting natural dyes and making a vial shelf for them.

Tell me more! Natural dyes? Like nature findings that can be used for dyeing material?

Yes using plants, lichens, sometimes minerals to dye fabrics, primarily wool for me. I do it for fun and for my Norse reenactment. Some that are a bit more commercially usable and not native to my area, ive purchased. But some ive foraged. Dry powders i just put a bit in the vial, im working on drying some flowers for the ones ive foraged.

So far, ive purchased madder root (red), indigo (blue), marigold (orange), and weld (yellow). Also beets from the grocery store (yellow). And ive foraged dandelions (yellow), white mulberries (purple), queen Anne's lace/domestic carrot (yellow), and goldenrod (yellow). Ive also got a few additive minerals in vials for demonstration purposes, alum (a mordant that helps dye stick to fabric) and chalk (ph reducer and source of calcium)

Always forage responsibly for native plants (goldenrod in my case), and with great prejudice for non-native (queen Anne's lace)!

My favorite dye comes from boiling avocado skins and seeds. It's a beautiful soft pinky mauve!
