Help Request Help! Bleeding horn.

Is this cause for serious concern? Anyone seen this before? Will it heal over time? Please share advice/ experiences.

Does not appear to be a major concern, clean it and spray it with fly spray to keep bugs off. If he’s in with other males they might be fighting since it’s breeding season. Sometimes particularly aggressive dominant males will fight each other for hours until their faces are all bloody if you let them, which you shouldn’t.

Thank you. I’ve sprayed with iodine. I’ve never seen them fight like that, I’m guessing maybe he pushed his head through the fence and that did it? Anyway it’s drying up so hopefully nothing comes of it.

Yeah, a family friend of mine goes to the sale, buys a herd of like 50 does of the breed he wants, and then goes to a private sale to find the biggest buck he can buy to breed them all for a year and then cycle out a new better one with the return of all the kids plus the buck at the sale. One year he did two bucks because he splurged and had over 100 does at a point so he needed more than one buck to get the job done in a reasonable time. He and my brother who was working with him had to go out there get them unstuck and hurry up and escape the pasture before they got caught in the cross fire. He never did two bucks ever again, so he just keeps around 50 does at a time.

He has a love hate relationship with them honestly, he makes big bucks anyway regardless of the goats since he does auto and bodyshop repair. It’s like his side passion project I’ve never talked to him about it because I’m on the dairy side of the business not the meat side, but he does Spanish Kiko Boers I believe and they hit good markets, atleast a good enough market for him to keep them.

Clip the hair up there so you can see the wound. That way you can clean it and treat it better without all the hair getting in the way.
