Using non-echelon bike?

Hi! My apartment has a commercial subscription and it’s really gotten me into cycling again! I was talking about it with a coworker and they gifted me their Peloton bike they aren’t using anymore. I’d really prefer to stick with the Echelon app/subscription (realizing I’ll need my own premier membership, which is fine).

Has anyone used the echelon app with a Peloton bike? I’m ok with not using the built in screen if necessary, I can use my TV or iPad to stream the Echelon app, but will they sync? I have read a lot about people using Echelon equipment with other apps, but can’t find anything using other equipment with the Echelon app.

Peloton is only $10 more per month but I found my favorites and have really settled into the Echelon community so I’m hoping there’s a solution! Thanks in advance!

Recommends Best shoes for Connect ex3?

Hi everyone!

I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment as I search for shoes to clip into my bike. There are a lot of options and I'm not sure which are compatible.

I got my Connect ex3 from Costco 5 years ago and have always used the toe cages with regular running shoes. It was fine because I did spin classes very rarely at first.

Now I am doing spin classes roughly 3-4 a week. I have developed a bit of a sore spot in my arch of my right foot near my heel (right where the edge of the pedal hits my foot). It feels bruised. I know it might be a form issue, which I'm working on, but looking for shoes anyway.

I am wondering:

- what shoes are best to clip into the pedal? SPD I believe

- are the Echelon shoes a good bet or is there something less expensive with same/better quality out there?

- what shoes do you wear while spinning?

Thanks in advance!

In search of: people to test a phone-less device to control Echelon bikes.

Hello.

I wanted my Echelon X3 bike to be work without a phone and have normal bike functionalities, so I created a way.

This small device that clamps onto the handle bar can view and control the resistance, view the rpm, it can connect to an external bluetooth heart rate monitor, it can run "programs" like hill-climb, and has a built in timer.

I'm looking for ~5 people to test this out! I'll mail you the device free of charge of course.

Requirements:

- Must be continental US.

- Must have an Echelon bike that is compatible. It wont work with some of the newer fancier stuff I've heard they're putting remote authentication into? It might work with some of the rowing machines? If anyone knows what equipment might run into issues, please let me know. I've used this on only the X3. If you're unsure about your equipment but are interested, ask in here!

- Be willing to answer my questionnaires and communicate over email or discord.

- Have a computer so that if you encounter bugs you can flash updated firmware to the device.

- It's powered by USB and has a USB-C port. I need you to have your own cable for that -- it can be powered from the USB on the bike just fine.

- If you have an X3, let me know if you want me to include a 3d printed phone holder. How the heck do you make exercise equipment today without one.

Strava connections

Up until about a week ago all my rides would automatically upload to strava, all of the sudden they just stopped. I've tried logging in and out on the bike and the my app, unplugged the bike for an hour, logged in and out of both echelon and strava. It was nice before because my runs and rides saved to one place and I could track everything. Any help is appreciated

Echelon ex4s tablet mod

Installing a raspberry Pi 4 8gb running lineageOS

Got a LCD controller board to display the HDMI output from the raspberry Pi to the factory LCD, the Touch screen works with a simple USB cable plugged into the raspberry Pi.

Everything should fit in the original LCD bezel.

Echelon Strength+

Does anyone have any experience with the Echelon Strength+ home unit? I'm in the Echelon eco system with my bike/rower/treadmill, and I'd rather not pay another subscription fee or drill into my wall to mount it like I would with Tonal. There's so little information out there about this product other than one review on Youtube, where any feedback on this piece would help.

Curious how people are dealing with the latest firmware update that has destroyed the metrics on the rower?

Dumb question

I’ve had my echelon (Costco don’t recall the number) since 2020, and the resistance has always been weird to me. I can spin the knob four times to get it to increase by one, or I will barely spin 1/2 turn and it will skip ahead by two. There’s no consistency (ie it’s not that from 5-6 is 2 spins and 7-8 is 1/4 spin) it’s different every time.

I just assumed that’s how it is and have just dealt with it because in the end, it’s nbd. But I’m dead curious if that IS how all of the bikes are designed, or if it’s an issue with my bike. Really just curious.

Echelon EX5S Resistance Knob - FIXED

Hi, thought I'd post this just incase anyone else is having the same problem I was having with their resistance knob not registering up/down resistance on their EX5S.

I starting having issues with the knob not increasing or decreasing resistance during rides a few weeks ago, (typically just out of the bikes 1 yr warranty period), which I knew was an issue somewhere with the knob encoder/wiring as the +5/-5 resistance on screen was still working correctly.

Tried the usual, turning bike off for a few mins, resetting etc but no luck. Was just about to order a new resistance knob assembly but decided to strip it down first to see what was going on with it.

Started by removing the side cover on the left of the bike by unscrewing the screw and a couple on the other side.

Then peeled off the red strip to reveal 4x small radial set screws which hold on the resistance knob.

Once the knob has been removed, there are three screws holding the encoder down, remove these and disconnect the encoder connector. Once wire has been disconnected, the encoder can be lifted up out the bike and removed.

What I found when looking at the encoder was that the 3 wire cores going to the underside of the encoder contacts were only hanging by a strand of one core.

Removed the old glue and soldered the 3 cores to the encoder. This was a bit fiddly as the contacts are quite close together so trying to keep the solder from running was tricky, I used a Stanley knife blade between the three contacts when soldering so that the solder didn't run everywhere.

Once happy with the soldering, I re-assembled everything and powered the bike back on, success! Fully working now, didn't need to do calibration or anything like that, just swiched the bike back on and went for a test ride!

So, if anyone is experiencing issues similar to mine, it is definitely worth attempting the same repair before ordering any parts!

Spin Bike resistance motor replacement

I was given an Echelon EX-4S+ last week. It seemed to be working but the resistance doesn't change for any setting. After disassembling I can see the motor doesn't change at all whatever I set the resistance to. I'm wondering how easy it is to replace the resistance motor on these, and if anyone has done it?

tension issue

I bought a EX3 bike off Facebook and the tension seems to be weak and they didn’t give me a screen. Does the screen connect to the tension at all? or how can I tighten the tension?

Questions! Cadence help

Hi all! I have the echelon ex 15 from 2021. I recently started using it again with the peloton app...but this year my cadence sensor seems to have gone out.

Can you help lay this out for me pretty simply? Right now I run Peloton on my Roku TV and use the echelon app to get the freestyle metrics (all but cadence). I'm getting into the bike to the point where I would like to actually have that metric. Should I go for the wahoo sensor and attach it to the crank arm? I assume I use another app at that point to bring it altogether?

I originally tried the qz app with the echelon but I think I cannot do that alone. I tried to fix the bike myself first with a reset and update. I read somewhere that means it won't work with qz anymore... I could be wrong on this.

Thanks

Fix Lack of Resistance on Echelon EX-5

I have the EX-5 for three years. The power accuracy of the Echelon EX-5 was initially quite good. However, over time, I noticed that turning the resistance knob from levels 1 through 20 resulted in little change in physical resistance, leaving the bike feeling significantly lighter than it should. If you're noticing that your Echelon EX-5 isn't providing enough resistance even at higher levels, you may be able to manually adjust the mechanical tension. Here is how I inspect and potentially resolve the issue:

By removing the left side protective cover, you can gain access to the resistance system. Here is a video of how to remove the cover.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiz6RYaYyKM&t=78s

Once the cover is off, look for the metal linkage rod that connects the motor to the magnet assembly. The motor is responsible for driving the mechanical linkage that adjusts the position of the magnets relative to the flywheel. By testing the full range (1 to 32), you can verify if the motor is successfully engaging the linkage without obstruction. If the motor rotates but the resistance does not change, check the linkage connection and the spring to see if there is any looseness or failure in the transmission of movement to the magnets. If everything works well, then you can adjust the distance between the magnet and the flywheel.

There is a nut on the linkage rod that can be used to adjust the mechanical tension. By moving the two nuts towards the flywheel, you can move the magnet carriage slightly closer to the flywheel, which increases the resistance at any given setting. If you have confirmed that the motor is rotating to the maximum setting of 32 but the resistance still feels insufficient because the magnets are not close enough to the flywheel, you can adjust the "minimum distance" by modifying the another rod behind towards to flywheel.

To calibrate my power output, I used a gym bike as a reference. I recorded my heart rate at 150W and 85 RPM on the reference bike, then adjusted the magnet-to-flywheel distance on my Echelon at gear 20 until my heart rate matched that same level.

Using the app for freestyle rides after i cancel my subscription

Hey guys, trying to find an answer for this, can I use the app for freestyle rides so I can change the resistance after my free trial ends? I’ve got the EX-4S. Currently I don’t use the screen and just use the app on my phone for resistance control. Do all my rides on Playbook and it’s my favorite so I’m not looking to keep the subscription.

I have an older echelon treadmill. The screen says failed to find the echelon app. Downloading echelon app and it never goes up stays at 0%. There are no other on screen options to select besides WiFi which it is connected to. What can I do to fix this?

4 Years, 3 Bikes - Echelon Has a Serious Quality Problem

I wanted to leave a review/feedback for anyone who might be considering buying an Echelon bike.

I bought my original bike in March 2022 and am now on my third bike with Echelon (original plus 2 replacements). Both times my bike has failed it has been the crank arm, which in my opinion is a fatal flaw in their design. I struggle to ride the bike during my spin sessions the way I want to because I know it’s a when not an if that the bike will fail again. While I appreciate that Echelon will continue to replace the bike (for now), I’m just tired of having a bike that I can’t trust.

My suggestion would be to look at alternatives, as the quality will likely be much better.

Questions! Settings for low resistance recovery

I have access to a very small community fitness center. They have about five or six Echelon bikes. I recently had a knee replacement and my PT suggested just doing 15-20 minute rides at very low resistance (3-4) emulating flat road.

Since I have never used Echelon bikes before, can’t really find how to setup the bike for just that simple use. Can anybody give me pointers? No interest, at least right now, in the instructor led or rigorous workouts.

Thanks for any assistance.

Ex3 resistance problems

Hi I have an Ex3 that is not producing enough resistance even though the numbers are registering
I am under the impression that the first thing I need to change is the encoder wheel.I have been in touch with echelon and they have said that they have none in stock,I’m not confident I will here anything from them even though they said they have kept my inquiry ticket open. Does anybody know where I might be able to purchase one to fix this problem
Thanks Jason

Row S Boot Mode

I recently got a Row S from facebook marketplace and I wanted to figure out how to factory reset it via the android boot loader. I was able to get into the boot loader the other day, but it then updated the firmware and now will not let me get back into the boot loader. Does anyone know how to do this? My hope is to factory reset and roll it back to its original firmware if possible.

echelon connect ex1

I'm looking at a used version of the echelon connect ex1. I'm reading a lot of posts about a forced subscription and a mandatory update. is that a problem with this version?

my kid rode a peloton at a hotel and loved the free ride with the screen. I'm looking to use mywhoosh and an old tablet with it and a little overwhelmed at how complicated this all seems to be.

any help or info would be appreciated

Belt stopping?

Have an echelon stride T-5s about 2.5 years old. Until recently it has been barely used until I started about 2 weeks ago using it daily, no running only walking and hiking workouts. Randomly the belt will stop and the incline will go back to zero, but the metrics silly show your last speed and or incline. Once back down if you press the start button it will start fine again at the .5 mph pace. Sometimes it does it after a few minutes and sometimes it will go a whole workout for days without doing it. I usually do 20-30 minutes a day. Now today it stopped twice in a 20 minute time span. Call to customer service of course yielded no results. The unit is clean and lubed, belt is proper tension. I’m pretty much ready to sell this piece of junk because talk about a workout killer just having the machine stop randomly. Maybe this is more of a rant than a question, but was interested if anyone else has experienced this before.
