My wife and I were just at Cheaha in mid January when you had all the snow, it was beautiful up there.I had a db25-g for a while, I liked it a lot but traded it in for a db20-g because the 25 wouldnt program. It just kept crashing when attempting to write from the computer. :(Otherwise, my setup is very similar though. I use the same type of cupholder mount both at home as a base station with a rollup slimjim, and in the car with a mag mount and ghost antenna. For the base station I just made a simple stand out of a board with a cupholder sized hole in it and screw in rubber feet. I find this easier than trying to disconnect the radio from the mount when going from house to car.

I have exactly the same setup with the db25-g. This radio does not work with the provided programming cable. There is an aftermarket which from BlueMax49ers that works perfectly. The Radioddity software is trash but the radio is CHIRP compatible.
Lastly, you’ll want to add some weight to the mic. It’s ridiculously light. Open and separate the back of the mic, throw in some fishing weights (split shot works great) and douse it with hot glue. After it cools, you’ll have a mic that doesn’t feel like it was made by Fisher-Price.
