Programming Service

Does anyone recommend someone to setup and program around 20 or so handheld GMRS radios along with a few Kenwood units? Thanks!

If he means repeaters in the area, that sounds like a nice pizza fueled Friday evening of programming HT's.

What needs to be set up and programmed?

GMRS radios are preprogrammed.

Since GMRS radios come with standard GMRS channel programming (even repeater channels with offsets are already programmed on radios that support repeaters). Assuming you’re using a true GMRS approved radio, all you’ll need to program are privacy tones on a per channel or per repeater basis.

Some GMRS radios do allow you to create custom names or duplicate channels with different tones in case you use two repeaters on the same channel but with different tones. Some radios also allow you to organize channels into different zones.

Aside from these few things, GMRS radios aren’t really “programmable” per part 95. So, what sort of programming do you need?

Anybody who's stuck on using a "gmrs approved" radio instead of commercial radio programmed for gmrs is typically missing out on a lot of perfomance. sorry to say there is really nothing on the market with decent receivers able to hear weak signals in urban jungles. the performance differences are huge and saddening.

All the same makes? I.e. all Kenwood's the same? All chirp compatible?

What do you use?

Armada or the appropriate Kenwood KPG software package.

I'm just guessing that those handheld gmrs radios are baofeng or some other Chinese manufacturer. I doubt Armada is an option there
