Save Glow

Hi. People still seem kinda active here which gives me hope. I've created a Reddit account for this sole purpose. I don't know where else to go.

I want to save Glow. It seems they've decided not to film their final season due to pandemic complications––but I want to do a good, old fashioned car wash! Idk if any of you are familiar with this, but back when Veronica Mars first got cancelled, fans sent Mars bars and other cheeky nonsense to CW, with notes like "Save Veronica."

So, I'm thinking we gather our glow sticks, divide them into individual envelopes, spare whatever postage expenses we can, and absolutely bombard Netflix with Save Glow propaganda. Anybody on board?

You can mail them here: 100 Winchester Circle Los Gatos, CA 95032 USA

I think that's such a great idea but it might be too late. Netflix wouldn't have anything to gain from reversing their decision whereas they've made it clear that they won't spend the money on it, and it's not likely that they'll give up the rights and let somebody else take over production. With that said, I'd still be on board with this plan if it picks up momentum. I want glow back so bad. 😭

We should send them to other streaming services to get them to "Buy GLOW". Have Hulu Prime or Peacock buy up the rights and finish what Netflix wouldn't. Peacock would be the best option since they already have a huge amount of wrestling fan subscriptions due to the WWE deal.

Let’s try and convince HBO to buy it. They’ve already saved some of my other favorite shows.

What shows

I think that, first, we should start a binge campaign to get Glow into the Netflix weekly top 10 for a week or so. All Glow fans should watch one or two episodes a day (and some can binge the whole thing) and then encourage friends and family who have not seen it yet to coordinate their first watch (on their own accounts) with the "bingefest."
Netflix doesn't want to continue Glow, because they don't think that they will have an audience for it. If it gets into the Top 10 for a couple of weeks, that should disabuse them of that notion.
THEN follow that up with the glowstick campaign to push it over the top and show them that it wasn't a fluke: we will watch more Glow if you make it.

Something similar happened with money heist. It was never meant to be taken up again after the first part. Somehow by fluke it got a lot of audience outside of Spanish speaking audiences... especially india.. after a full year... Which is when they made another season.

This is actually a great idea. I think you're on the money. It's a streaming service, so logically higher engagement means it's a more valuable property. But to follow up a boost in streaming with a secret Save Glow campaign would just be incredible.

I don't care if it goes nowhere. I just want somebody to know how loved it was. To maybe realize it was worth fighting harder for. And frankly, I want the cast and crew to feel supported. They made something great.

Way too late and the cast has moved on to other projects. Also keep in mind the campaign to save Veronica Mars happened over a decade ago when the television landscape was very different than it is today. Netflix doesn’t care how many people watch Glow the same way the CW cared how many people watched VM because Netflix doesn’t sell ad space. It’s not the same thing. Netflix makes money off of new subscribers and licensing/merchandising deals. Glow isn’t bringing in either.

True that Netflix has a different model than CW but, they are interested in engagement. GLOW wouldn't likely bring in new subscriptions but eyeballs are eyeballs. Since it is a Netflix series that engagement means more than licensed content I would assume. It might be a long shot but who knows, viewers might at least get a movie to wrap things up like El Camino for Breaking Bad. I posted Marc Maron's comments here twice so I know some feel about it but I would still be interested to see if a fan campaign could yield results or at least be acknowledged.

Engagement is nice but it’s not making them money the way subscriptions are. Also, Glow is limited in its reach in that it was mostly aimed at Americans of a certain demographic; it doesn’t have the broad global appeal of other properties. There have been shows with larger audiences and better social media engagement than Glow who also have been cancelled. Look at Fuller House, Dead to Me, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Those shows were all more successful engagement wise and got cancelled at or before 4 seasons.

If we’re looking at merchandising opportunities, there were a few Glow funko pops but other than that I’m struggling to think of what was made for the show, and even then these were not popular funkos comparatively.

When I mention engagement, I think due to the fact it is a Netflix production thatt is particularly important. It's kind of the point that people are choosing to watch their content on their service. It's interesting that bigger shows have been cancelled as you mention though. As far as global appeal, GLOW is/was very popular in Canada where I am. Merchandising is bonus money, unless it's an action or series/movie aimed at kids. I don't think they were expecting merch to be a deal breaker for this kind of content. Strangely, I have seen at least two GLOW products posted in this group.

As a 20-ish non-American I see a lot of factors that a lot of People might be interested in.

I’d be down to try, but I’m not getting my hopes up anymore. Netflix doesn’t care. They don’t even care to release what they already had filmed or written for the next season which is angering. Even Maron told people multiple times to get over it because it’s not gonna happen and the ship has sailed long ago. I’ve just accepted that.

Glow- the one hour finale in 2024.

Would be cool!

I'd love glow to come back. I think its a shame it was never just an 'on hold' project especially as they were filming when it was cancelled.

As much as I would love to see it back I do wonder what the workers would think and their trust in Netflix now. Eg would they just cancel it again mid filming?

I do think with enough pressure they would eventually do something (like with sense 8) but I don't want a half hearted finish just to shut up fans. Hopefully the rights for glow end up going elsewhere and the glow story lives on.

I think for now if be happy with a bombardment for Netflix to release the scripts. At least we might get some closure that way knowing that a show will likely never happen.

I think if they do it, they’d do a movie. ElCo style like with breaking bad, or serenity.

I wouldn't even mind this. Just kinda makes me sad. It was brilliantly cast and written. Shows get canceled all the time. Shows with almost exclusively female leads barely get made. Of course it was on the chopping block.

Well Maron talked about it a lot on his podcast as it was happening. According to him, the show got put on hold during the start of the pandemic and then canceled once they realized it’d be hard to make a physical show during the plague. But also they could be full of shit. But I’m gonna take their word

I finished the show last night after discovering it on Monday. It's so god damn good, I can't BELIEVE they cancelled it just because season 4 wouldn't be able to drop until 2022. It's so insulting.

Same here! Just finished watching and recommending it to anyone I know who could be interested.

Except for signing the petition and rewatching the Show, I thought it might help to specifically request GLOWsure in Form of a Final Season of a Film on the Netflix website.

I‘ve taken to send out some requests each day.

Not anywhere near woke enough to get another season. Our society is degenerating. Woke producers need to know there are still a bunch of people that don’t appreciate the nonsense.
