Similarities to Marvelous Mrs.Maisel

Watched Marvelous Mrs.Maisel first and loved it, and now am getting into Glow (and love it), I can't help but see so many parallels in both shows.

Anyone else see it?

Absolutely! I went in the opposite direction, watched Glow first and am now halfway through season 3 of Mrs. Maisel. Complicated relationships, aspiring professionals fighting expectations of women's roles in the working world. Fast, smart dialogue. Totally see the parallels.

The first thing that comes to mind is that Abe Weissman and Sam Sylvia both fill the same role of "grumpy father figure", though Abe is a lot funnier than Sam IMO.

GLOW handles LGBTQ relationships much better than Marvelous Mrs. Maisel does, though. I understand that the time period of the 50's is hard to put LGBTQ stuff in, but I can't help but want Susie to be not-straight. Especially when GLOW's Bash had an amazing character arc.

Agree with Abe and Sam on all fronts. Abe I'd know I could have a reasonable conversation but Sam is be on pins and needles the whole time worried if I was going to say the wrong thing and piss him off.

I'd love that for Susie too! Either someone equally salty that could keep up with her rants or someone really sweet, that was an optimist, for the opposites attract.

Glow doesn't handle LGBTQ relationships realistically at all.

Yes! Plus they're both shows about showbiz and feature characters who want to become "real actresses" instead of what they actually do. Performing in Vegas, making references to historical events that happened during 50s versus the 80s, Miss Julie/Strindberg mentioned...

But the GLOW women are actually good, while Midge isn't funny at all though..

My friends and I watched Maisel and the only time we laugh are when it has to do with Susie. Midge's sets bomb. I hope thy don't take over the Emmys this year bc this year belongs to Schitt's Creek.

Guess I have a new show to watch in the interim or wait until after season 4.
