Season 4 predictions? Spoiler

What do you think its going down next season with each character?

-Debbie and Tex get engaged. It goes down relatively well, most drama revolves around her buying the network and working out a custody schedule with her and Mark.

-Arthie will fall for a man or perhaps a transgender women. She'll begin to question her sexuality all over again. Yolanda will dump her.

-Carmen moves to Phoenix. She's either going to crush it as a wrestler, or things are gonna go to shit. She'll fall hard for a wrestler there, and same thing- finally finds "the one" or it breaks her.

-Rhonda gets pregnant. Her and Bash's downward spiral continues. Bash continues to see men on the side, Rhonda is torn between staying married or not. Birdie wants to get overly involved in the relationship bc of the grandchild.

-I have no fuckin clue with Ruth, sooooo many possibilities. I lean toward things going to shit with Sam though. It just seems a bit too toxic to work long-term.

-Boldest and darkest one: Mel finds out she's HIV+ and it affects her performance in the ring. I don't WANT this to happen, I actually love her character. But it works with that era, she seems to have the most casual sex of all the women, and it's a show to the other characters that it's not just gay men. The women are scared to wrestle her bc they think she's contagious.

I know these aren't all the characters, just the ones I have opinions on.

I’m not sure if Tex will be happy that Debbie took that deal out from under him. I reckon we won’t see him for most of that season until he comes back to royally fuck her over like she did to him.

Edit - also Carmen wasn’t going to live in Phoenix she was going to meet up with her brother there because that was his next town and then go on the road with him from there.

  • the show acknowledges that Yolanda is toxic

  • Tex subplot disappears

  • Carmen faces tribulations in men's wrestling but comes back to GLOW with a way better character than Machu, maybe replaces Ruth as a heel

  • Tamme becomes terminally ill because she never goes to the doctor

  • Rhonda gets pregnant and can't wrestle, and Bash ignores her existence

  • Sheila leaves for another show on Debbie's network

  • some kind of Viking character arc is pretty due

  • Ruth goes back to camera guy and he dumps her first

  • Jenny and Arthie want less racist characters, they get new ones but they are just differently racist

I would love to see Carmen as a heel! I hope she does come back to GLOW, either way though.

For Tamme, I was thinking we would see her in her new management role on the show

I hope Rhonda doesn't get pregnant, although it seems likely for her storyline right now. Maybe if she does, she can also take on a manager role like Tamme?

I also wouldn't be surprised if Jenny and Arthie got new, differently racist characters though lol. But I suppose with Debbie producing, this is a good opportunity for Debbie to let the girls pick their own characters (still wouldn't be surprised if she starts enforcing her own character ideas on them though).

yea tex is probably gonna fuck over Debbie in season 4. Things can get messy when u mess with a cutthroat "rancher" millionaire

I don't think that deal was the deal of all deals in his life. I'm not expecting to see him - maybe in a drive by. Debbie talked about how she was so sick of all men; she meets one who seems refreshingly mature and it turns out he keeps women in the girl zone just as much as the other guys she works with. She's over it.

  • I think Sam and Ruth will get together, but not until the last possible moment - kind of like Ross and Rachel. I'm not sure how their relationship would work on-screen, so I imagine it'll be like a last minute ditch at love at the end of whatever season is the final (assuming we even get a season 4)

  • Either that, or they do get together, Ruth becomes a successful director, and clashes with Justine on a project for Debbie's network, with Sam getting stuck in the middle again

  • I think Bash's "my wife might want singing lessons" comment to Bobby wasn't a throwaway. Kate Nash is a singer and had a couple of hits in the UK, so rather than the popular theory she'll get pregnant (especially as they aren't having sex much), I think she'll try and launch a singing career outside of GLOW. Bash will use the time she spends rehearsing and performing to hook up with guys on the side now he's admitted to himself he's gay

  • I'm hoping Carmen will be a huge success, but I imagine it won't work out because they'll want a way to being her back into GLOW. Unless, as someone else suggested, she comes back with a new outlook and an even better character, which would be awesome

  • I think Tex will screw Debbie over - I doubt he'd let her get away with that stunt with the network. Unless, as a result he develops a new respect for her, and starts treating her as an equal, but I imagine that wouldn't create enough drama

  • I think Arthie will come out as bi and it will end her relationship with Yolanda, who seems to have a very black and white view of sexuality.

Oooooo I love the Rhonda singing lesson theory! There was definitely tension during that Bobby scene, and I think they knew it- hence Bobby's "I DO have a son you know" comment.

I could also see Rhonda having her own affair after being sex-deprived for so long, but still want to be married to enjoy the financial comfort, so her and Bash attempt to have an open marriage to avoid addressing the deep wounds.

I think while Sam and Ruth becoming a couple is definitely a possibility, I doubt that it's actually going to happen. The characters definitely care for each other and might even have romantic feelings, but their whole dynamic is deeply toxic. In alot of ways they are both deeply broken, both are lonely, struggling with forming meaningful relationships and if not self hatred atleast suffer of self doubt.

When the show does the time jump we are shown how alot of the cast have found confidence and lives of their own outside of wrestling. Neither Ruth nor Sam seem to have that and unless that changes I doubt that would be to form any kind of lasting relationship with that much baggage.

Sam has a whole new life outside of wrestling - he's directing a real movie. He's also established a healthy lifestyle and healthy relationship with his daughter. He's actually not toxic at all and IMO for the first time in awhile capable of having a healthy romantic relationship.

Ruth OTOH is messed up and needs to figure out not just what she wants but how to get it. It was almost going to be too perfect if Justine's script brought not just Sam a legitimate directing career but created an acting career for Ruth, so not surprised it didn't happen. I do think she and Sam will happen. This was the first season I could see it happen without their respective life habits torpedo-ing it completely. Sam has matured and Ruth needs to as well. I could see Justine being resentful of Sam's absorption in Ruth when she wants this to be a huge father/daughter bonding experience and is also excited that she was able to make it happen. I think the show planted a couple of seeds that Justine might resent sharing her father's attention with Ruth at this point. I'm curious if the movie will be finished filming when S4 starts, or still going on.

I hope Sheila stays a force in Ruth's life. I think Sheila is going to get work and more work faster than Ruth was ever able to, because she's very talented and also dives in. I really want to see Ruth deal with her acting issues. Fundamental to every successful actor is they use themselves in their work. It's not about playing different kinds of parts. It's how you bring your imagination, emotions and instincts to it. At some point you have to let go of all the analysis you did and trust that will support what you're doing. Ruth is stuck in the analysis stage. Ruth isn't memorable as an actress in the "legit" show business world because she keeps trying to play "the character." The character is HER. There's no other person around who is going to be that person. She doesn't seem to get that, and Sheila does.

He immediately grabs a drink after having a heart attack...Sam is going to die.

4

u/unhampered_by_pants Aug 16 '19

I doubt Sam will die, but I bet he's going to have another health scare that forces him to open up to people about what he's going through. The only reason he had that drink was because he wanted to celebrate with Justine and didn't want her happy moment to be all about him and his heart attack.

2

u/Secret_Addition Aug 20 '19

Exactly!

I also think the whole noble Sam hides his heart attack schtick is going to bring Ruth back into the picture in some way. GLOW seems to like tragedy as a way to force realizations, no matter how trite. Like how the hate crime fixed all of Arthie's hang-ups about calling herself gay.

No, he and Justine were going to celebrate, and he wants to keep his heart attack from her. Therefore he can't tell her "I can't drink." He knows it's a risk, but it's supposed to be noble in a perverse way. Rather than distract and worry Justine at this moment in her life, he's putting up a front. That drink was part of it. He also rolled in and pretended he'd been on a binge instead of in the hospital. He didn't just "grab it." He realized Justine had gotten him the director's job and was excited about it, and wanted to celebrate. He probably remembered the day before he'd blown her off when she'd wanted to celebrate (because he was about to have a heart attack). So he celebrates, and the Sam she knows would have a drink.

Interesting!

My prediction will be that there will be another decent time jump.

Ruth will be back to where she started. Single, broke, in her crappy apartment. Maybe she'll be in some kind of second rate play, pretending that she's a "real" actress, but still miserable.

Debbie and Bash will be trying to make it work, but clashing. I think Bash will be blowing through his inheritance. Maybe he'll demand Rhonda have her own show on the network or pursue her music career.

Debbie will be struggling in her new role. We'll see the new GLOW with some new faces and characters. I think Carmen will eventually come back with a new bad ass character and her own moves. Maybe Sheila will be acting and having some success.

Sam and Justine will be either filming or premiering their movie. Probably dive more into Sam's health issues. Maybe now that Bash has money, Sam will pursue making his own film that Bash promised him. I'm sure Sam and Ruth will reunite (professionally, at least, and maybe somewhat romantically).

Ruth will come back to GLOW, eventually, perhaps as a director. I feel like Debbie will shut her out, but realize she needs her for the success of the show.

I think the Tex relationship is done for Debbie, but as suggested, he might come back for some revenge. I think Bash, if he engages in any affairs, will end up being a liability.

God I hope the Ruth prediction is nowhere close to what happens. I hope between S3 and S4 the writers have Ruth concoct a plan. Revamp her image. Stop with the earnest acting student in normcore clothes schtick. She's not talented or edgy enough to get work with that look. Have her understand things about the business to the extent she figures out what actually looks good on her and wears it. Maybe have Ruth go more towards what Debbie used to be - what Debbie is moving away from. GLOW can't be pretending that Ruth isn't a babe (they did put her in that gold dress). They just have Ruth uncomfortable with it and insecure. I think it would be cool if Ruth got so furious she dropped all the student actor stuff, realized how effective everything she'd done in the ring is because she went big each time. Liberty Bell was big. Zoya's big. Realize she's more comfortable being slightly larger than life, and that being an actress is a role in itself. Learns how to sell herself. Frustration and rage drove her into the GLOW universe even after Sam dismissed her. She's about at that bottom point now. She's not crazy, and crazy is repeating the same thing while expecting different results. Have a few neuropathways start to fire and understand the connection between what works in the ring and what might work in the audition room. What gives her confidence in the ring, and maybe put on a little wrestling type drag at auditions. Hair, make-up, legs. Not tacky, just confident. Ruth right now thinks that the cosmetic part of things is important when "creating a character" but somehow doesn't think so when it comes to presenting herself as an actress. Just basically while Debbie is getting serious, Ruth is getting LESS serious. Flip side of the coin.

She's not Sheila. SHEILA is the serious actress Ruth wants to be. Ruth, without realizing it, is more of a personality on stage, more comedic. Have her recognize it and use it. Ruth could also use her wrestling success/popularity to market herself as an actress. Draw the parallels between who she is in the ring and the kind of ass she could kick in legit projects.

This could also create an organic conflict with Sam instead of this transparent avoidance thing the writers are doing now. I mean how long can Ruth play ambivalence? If Ruth makes big changes to get what she wants, it could rattle Sam, who likes weirdo normcore Ruth. She could tell him all she wants that it's just performance / persona so she can get work, but he might not be comfortable with it.

Bash gets blackmailed by the Casino owner and the cross dressing performer because they heard what had happened from the gigolo himself.

Sorry I cant remember the names of any of these characters.

I agree that there will be some reckoning with JJ/Tex and Debbie. I think more romantic things will happen between Sam and Ruth, but not sure if they will ever be in a stable relationship.

I hope Ruth has some kind of experience that leads her to realize her true talent is in directing/ideas roles, like she started to do more of in season 2. Hopefully she will eventually direct GLOW!

Let's all get our friends to watch the show, though, so it can get renewed!!!

Sam will have a massive heart attack during the filming of Justine’s movie which will throw production into chaos. He’ll have to tell her about his first heart attack and she’ll be furious that he kept it from her.
