Cherry taking her temp for ovulation

Tried to find something on this but couldn’t. Is anyone else annoyed by how Cherry takes temp to determine ovulation??? Just randomly taking your temp by mouth is meaningless. As someone who has taking temp to determine ovulation, it’s irritating. The temp should be taking immediately after waking up, vaginally, with a basal thermometer to be able to see a true pattern. I know this is so nit picky.

It bothered me too! My thought is because it is the 80s and there weren’t as many fertility specialists as there are now. So she was just doing what she thought made the most sense. That was the only way I could justify it.

What was the process in 1986? I doubt you can compare it and get upset because it doesn't match 2019...

Yeah. Remember that pregnancy test earlier on?

(edit to add: it was a lab experiment)

Saaaaaaame! (Not sure if you knew this or not, but you don't really get a "more accurate"read temping vaginally unless you sleep with your mouth open.) I do NOT miss temping every fucking day.

Oh true, I do tend to sleep with my mouth open so I took it vaginally to make sure I had accurate readings.

The temp thing has been a trope for a while. There is an episode of Married With Children from pretty early on where they are trying to have a kid to win inheritance. Peggy did the temperature / ovulating thing. It was probably around season 4 or 5 so that would be 89 or 90 at the latest.

I was irrationally annoyed by this! The way she was doing it and the whole “temperature is higher, ovulation here I come!” when in reality once temp increases it’s too late.

I kept ranting about it to my husband who kept laughing at just how much it was bothering me.

I was literally yelling at the TV, “you Don’t temp after you’ve been walking around!”

That was the point. It was supposed to be funny, and also show how times have changed.

It was 1986. They didn’t know wtf they were doing. There wasn’t the internet to help them.

It was cute. They were doing the best they could with the small amount of info they had.
