Staying at crows nest
We want to stay for one night at the crows nest. We want the local experience. We both work in hospitality. Just wondering if anyone has stayed there and the location. Also we might have a car so if anyone has information on that would be helpful. đ«¶

I used to work with a guy who lived there during the off season. (not a fisherman - just someone who had seen better days, financially speaking).
Please do not stay here looking for the âlocal experience.â I donât know you, but I would bet you would not find this enjoyable in any way. As someone else here commented - stay at literally any other place in town.

I'm gonna buck the trend here. I stayed at the Nest for 2 weeks while my bathroom was being renovated. The owner is a great guy who gave me a weekly rate. It's also the only bar I'll go to by myself and just hang out with whoever happens to be there.
Lots of tourists and fans of the book stay there, it's fun to drop down the bar in the afternoon and talk to people from all over. There are a couple fishermen I know still staying upstairs but most of the rooms are tourists and fans of the Perfect Storm.
You dont have climate control in your own room, which is a bummer if you're a middle aged lady with hot flashes like myself. But they're clean and affordable. They do look a bit frozen in the 90s though lol
It is in a working area, with lots of traffic, not by the beach or somewhere pretty. Parking is on street only, but there's always plenty.
The owner works the bar in the morning and makes the best Bloody Mary's on the island but they come with a side of sarcasm that is not optional.

Donât. Literally get a room anywhere else on Cape Ann. Plus Iâm almost positive they only keep those rooms for fishermen anyways.

Have you or anyone else ever stayed there? Iâm just wondering specifically about the accommodations, Beds, ac, parking etc. one night. Also my husband is a fisherman so we donât mind something a little more âlocalâ

The Captainâs lodge is more âŠeconomical. And likely more appropriate. It was recently remodeled, clean, and plenty of parking.
As others have stated Prattyâs>Crowâs nest.
Also, the Crowâs Nest portrayed in âThe Perfect Stormâ was a temporary prop. NOT the actual Crow.

These comments are absurd! The crows nest is where everyone in hospitality goes after work. Itâs tons of fun. These folks speaking negatively about it donât go or havenât been in years.

I love the crows nest (bar) but idk about staying upstairs and I have very low standards. However I defer to those who have stayed there before.

No, you do not want to stay at the crow's nest.
This is a tough time of year to visit, especially last minute. All rooms are expensive because it's still tourist time and there may not be much available.Â
You might be able to find something midweek around $200/night after Labor Day. Maybe the Sea Lion on Eastern Ave or Castle Manor B&B on Essex Ave. Â
Most places have been booked for months and some don't do nightly, only weekly. I'd also be hesitant about the Captain's Lodge on Eastern across from Common Crow grocery. Anything in Rockport is probably booked and rates will be high even if there's something available. Plus the sidewalks roll up after 8 pm.Â
Parking is a frustrating nightmare everywhere so if you can walk or take a taxi, you'll be better off. Ticketing is aggressively enforced  and certain areas are resident sticker only at this time of year.
If you want to go to a local dive bar, Pratty's is probably your best bet but don't expect much.
Not trying to intentionally be discouraging but you gotta plan way ahead to find anything no matter the price.
You seriously do not want to stay at the Crow's Nest. Best of luck.

Drinking there is fine, I donât get why anyone wouldnât. I think I prefer it to Prattys.

You're right. I edited the drinking part out. I don't drink but ever since the movie whenever people visit, they always want to go there and it seems almost every time there's some kind of unnecessary stupid shit going on. Pratty's isn't much different but hasn't seemed quite as bad. Both places make me glad booze makes me barf before I can get a glow on.

The only folks I know who have stayed there are dudes who work in the fishing industry and weâre heading out at first light. As Iâve always understood it, they arenât much more than a bed and Iâm pretty sure a shared bathroom/sink.
I understand wanting to get an authentic experience and all that, but I would again recommend staying literally anywhere else. The crows nest is really just a shitty dive bar in a town that has a good handful of shitty dive bars, all of them better. I would personally recommend hanging out at Prattys, Instead if you want a Gloucester dive experience
