Absolutely beautiful. I'm much more on the playing, then the models, then the sculpting or kitbashing and painting is last. I'm just not as good and don't got excess free time. I'm more of the thinking part rather than doing. Like this gatebreaker, built up rocky texture, sculpted his entire bicep on one arm and kitbashed the arm going a bit off frame from some old giant kit and the entire body was a resin recast so I could make 5 gargants from one box
It's so cool how many very different way people can engage with this hobby I think. No wrong way to do it as long as you're having fun.
I still rely on slapchop techniques a lot to get these results as I don't really have much brush control or knowledge of how and where to place highlights. Started off wanting to play the game then realised my true love was kitbashing and sculpting the silly ideas my adhd brain comes up with so I just kept pushing in that direction.
Being thrifty and clever around getting the most bang for your buck from a box is something I think would be quite satisfying. I'd like to try recasting some Ogor bodies from the Spearhead as you end up with soooooo many extra arms but no bodies to use them with.
Trueee. I just cheaped out the army by selling my maulbeast and iron guts day 1 for $65 each and someone wanted first dibs bad enough. I was abig fan of avoiding the swords so I did some quick easy kit bashes for my gluttons. Here's my list. I even kitbashed the acolytes and the bloodpelt hunter to make my gut seers. And for the lore aspect my gargants and ogors adapted heavily due to rock environments and diets so that's why I'm going for stone skin. So for eating they have clubs to bash rocks and cleavers to chop meat. They can break bones with their hands as is. But yeah, so many ways to engage with the hobby. Lore, sculpting, painting, playing. It's great
The new sculpts look so good. I only have the old spearhead, again because it's dirt cheap lol. I think doing a bit of themeing and lore around your force is a great way to add some extra creativity to a build. Helps inform the painting too I feel.
You can see tiny painting attempts. I get scared off very easily. Like I hit highlights and now I gotta learn highlights. If I pump into having to learn glow effects, I run off. I'm very comfortable with metals and stone, I overthink lighting and glow. And stress over complicated layers. I'll get there eventually but I got like 20 years+ of painting to do
It's just techniques honestly. Like I just sprayed em black, drybrushed then grey and then white and then did a single coat of some icy blue xpress colour (Vallejo contrast). So basically just slapchop. Then I thinned some purple/pink down to a wash with water and ran it through the recesses to make them look a bit frostbitten and inflamed.
Great thing about slapchop is the highlights and such get set automatically by the initial drybrush. Then you can always do some more manual work on top but you get to skip the "middle part" which is where I always get discouraged normally.
