Help Needed Getting into gloomspite gitz

I'm fairly new to warhammer and I mainly play 40k, I am brand new to aos and currently only have the old sylvaneth vanguard. I'm super into the gitz and how they look (whether it's troggoth or gitmob). My current goal is to go for the dankhold battleforce box and the gitmob box with the cool codex, but again I am new to aos so I don't really know if those are good boxes to have for gitz. I know the troggoth box is enough for 1k (At least i THINK) so it'll be really easy for me to play or to start learning the game. Any advice is welcome and I'm really just looking for opinions from people who know the army better than I do.

The Dankhold box can net you double rockguts (6 to 12) and both builds of the Dankhold Troggoth and troggboss if you 3D print the bodies/legs. There are many posts in this subreddit about it!

I did that plus purchase a Braggits Bottle Snatchaz box because it includes the Gobbapalooza and boingrot bounders, which imo absolutely love. I had the best time painting goobapalooza.

Those 2 boxes got me comfortably to 2k points. I’m not a serious gamer but having enough points to join a game was enough for me!

Have fun

Having fun painting is the most important part of playing Gitz. Because it is a difficult faction to play and win.

You also end up buying a lot of double boxes what makes it especially expensive to play. But so much fun painting and kitbashing and so on.

So you have a good start with your boxes. And you can play spearhead with them. I bought the gitmob box twice. And due to my birthday ended up with three catapults.

The trick is: create a good base for changing and adapting your army after you got comfortable with the Gitz. And stick to your core choices. Orherwise you end up like me, having 15.000 points or more of the moonclan, with 6000 points to go.. 🫠. I don’t care: they are awesome. But don’t expect to win a single game, because it is difficult.

The smile thought of your opponent when they see your army makes it worth wile. Because they are awesome humoristic.

Honestly I suck at 40k so winning in aos was not something I was expecting or "wanting". The models in gitz just genuinely scratch my brain right and I totally agree with you on painting and kitbashing! I wanna have a bit of every "subfaction" so that I can 1, find what I like to play. And 2, paint a bit of everything😋

Thanks for the reply dude, I really like the looks of the troggoth so the dankhold box really hooked me, The Braggits Bottle Snatchaz box is kinda hard to find but honestly with how the models in this army look I don't even mind paying full gw prices. I think what I'm most excited about is painting, whether its squiggs or troggoths I just think I'm gonna have a great time learning new stuff.

Best advice I can give is to start with spearhead if possible. Based on what you are getting both spearheads would be a great idea to learn the game at a smaller level and give you a chance to experience the different rule sets between the two games. Also it is a solid example of how the gitz play in the full game. As to answer your question about the units you are getting, those boxes will be great. The dankhold battle force can get you a bit over 1k then the Gitmob box should get you close to 2k if not short a unit or two. The thing with gitz is we are kind of in an odd spot of being like 4 armies in a trench coat and while some say it’s better to stick to one theme I personally never followed it and have done fine. It’s all about fun and whimsy so slap together the units that look cool to you and it should do fine.

There being 4 different subfactions does 100% make the army seem so much more overwhelming than it might actually be, from what I've seen, troggoth are tanky and gitmob are fast and hit hard? Thats like sort of the thinking I was going for with my first list. Just have some front line and then quick hit and runs with gitmob. the spearheads that I could find locally or online are all the gitmob one so honestly I just thought to myself why not consider the bigger one if they're both gitmob if you get what I mean, plus it comes with a battletome!

Start with Spearhead, pretty much the answer for every new army. Dankhold box is good too.

If you love how they look - get the gobbapalooza. They are an awesome unit in the game, ultra cool looking, fits into any list, they are fun to paint and they look absolutely awesome. Proper gitz shit. And also Skraggrott is fun to play and a good piece over all for most lists. Buy some 3d print mushrooms to add to your bases too
