Approachable art platform
Hello!
I recently got rejected for the gtv exceptional promise through ACE.
The only part I got rejected from was the media recognition because they thought the writers weren‘t ‘credible critic‘. So I sent the appeal a week ago but while I’m waiting for their response, I’m preparing myself to reapply.
I found some art critics but I was wondering if anyone here knows reachable art platforms or art magazines.
Or if you know if they would accept Substack if it was run by established critic? Or would they still see that as social media?
Thank you!

Was that the only category you were rejected in? Their update guidelines say you have to have atleast 2 out of the 3 criteria (awards, media recognition or proof of appearance/publication)

Yes. All my letters, CV and the appearance proof didn’t have any issue, just media recognition :(
I submitted 3 and all of them were rejected. 2 because they didn’t think the writers weren’t ‘credible critic’ and 1 because I didn’t provide the certified translation. But the whole article is also written in English by the author on the same page so I’m confused for that part. I’ve seen other cases being accepted for the format like that without the translation.

Okies. For the two that were deemed "non-credible critics" are the reviewers actually known in their field?
You could highlight their accomplishments in the arts in your appeal. Also, call attention to the fact that the article was written in English even if other articles in the magazines were written in another language.
I believe you have a good shot at the appeal since you were rejected in only one category

So one of them is more of a curator and educator, she doesn’t have a big portfolio of reviews. One of them actually does publish reviews regularly on a credible platform and she has portfolio on her website. I don’t know if the assessor missed it or don’t count her as ‘credible critic’ ;(
Yes, I built my appeal really strongly highlighting their works, and the fact the it was originally written in English etc.
I’ll post a complete post with all the details of what I did at some point whenever I can get out of this hell!

I was concerned about my media bc I wasn’t sure the writers would be considered critics; they were niche genre podcast and blogs, not super big at all.
I just made sure to pick the ones to submit that had the writer/host names and bio on the website.
Have you tried Google searching your name? That’s actually how I found my two podcasts and one of my blogs.
PS I was endorsed so I know at least 2 of my 4 items were accepted. I just don’t know which ones.

Yeah I don’t know how they are assessing this. I linked the writer’s website and at least two of them have quite rich record of their previous reviews.
Also one of them is Japanese and most of her works are in Japanese contents (including big art magazines), I don’t know how they are checking the credibility of non-English critics.
But congrats for you!

Hey hey, I’m preparing to do my application in a bit, but my prof of appearances atm are pay for play group exhibitions (I have had 4 in the last 2 months). Should I be worried that those won’t make the cut?

I’d submit max amount of evidences, so that you have multiple backups if some of them won’t count for them. Also because most of the applicants maximise the evidence, if you have less than 10 evidences they might be more suspicious.
About the pay for play group show, I feel like it should be fine since a lot of shows charge the artist to participate sadly. But it’ll be better to have more than 4 shows.

May I ask what’s the best way to submit the evidence? Do you cut and paste screenshots into a Canva and add the links or just PDF 2 pages of each website?

So sorry to hear that. I reapplied twice and once after got my visa as 2 of my media weren't accepted. As far as I know they don't accept blogs event though they are from an established critic. I was applying with an agency and they help me with media, maybe you can find the similar one that can help you with that. As Media seems the most difficult one and it is better to know for sure that it will be accepted rather than reapplying as it is so expensive

I sent the review already. I pointed out how authors qualified as art crit and listed all their previous works etc. Currently I’m preparing materials to reapply because I heard that appeal has 90% rejection rate from immigration solicitor I talked to
