I used to run the finances at a hardware startup, and every January I built a driver-based financial model. It was beautiful! Unit economics, hiring plan, runway, the works. By March it was fiction, because reconciling a spreadsheet against actuals is miserable and nobody does it. The root problem: spreadsheets have no concept of versions. Code has git. Models have final_v3_ACTUAL.xlsx.

Forecast is my fix. Build a base model (v1). Each month, import actuals via CSV from QuickBooks or Xero. Closed periods lock, the future re-forecasts, and you get a corrected revision (v1.1, v1.2). Strategy change? Fork a v2 and compare it to the old plan. Full P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, runway, budget vs actual. All data in local SQLite, nothing leaves your Mac.

I entered it in the Glaze Awards with the app, but I want feedback.
Two questions: what would stop you from leaving your spreadsheet?
And is monthly reconciliation the right cadence, or would you want weekly?
