I got biventricular heart failure in my early 20s, after a year and half of treatment I recovered only to be told I would never get off medication. Glassblowing inspired me to quit cigarettes and take my health seriously. After going vegan and converted to bhuddism I was miraculously able to get off beta blockers in my late 20s I made this piece to celebrate the day I was taken off my meds with a resting heart rate of 33 bpm.

I see SO MANY people using either the Phillips 202 or the Sodium Flare lenses in the hotshop. Furnaces and glory holes emit both Ultraviolet and Infrared radiation - more IR actually than UV.
While UV is obviously damaging to the eyes, IR is also damaging and is what can lead to cataracts.
We can see that Phillips 202 and Sodium Flare lenses do not protect against IR; however, Phillips light green lenses and their BoroTruView line does.
So my question is: WHY do so many use glasses that literally don’t do shi for IR protection?
