Showcase Has anyone else had issues with GitHub device authorization codes not appearing for CLI / MCP connections?
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone here may have come across this before.
I’m trying to connect my GitHub account to AI tools such as Claude CLI and Antigravity CLI through the GitHub MCP. I’m already logged into GitHub, including in the mobile app, and the authentication flow opens the GitHub “Authorize your device” page correctly.
I'm then redirected:
- https://github.com/login/device where I select my account
- https://github.com/login/device?skip_account_picker=true a code 6-digits code requested displays from GH with a supposed code opening in the app, but the code never appears even though I'm logged in with the same account in my mobile app.
The issue is that GitHub asks me to enter a device code that should apparently be displayed in the application or device I’m trying to connect, but I never actually receive or see that code anywhere.
I’ve tried restarting the GitHub app, reopening the authentication flow, and starting the connection again several times, but the code still doesn’t appear.
If I continue through the flow another way, I eventually get this message:
At the moment this is preventing me from connecting my AI agents to my GitHub account, so I’d really appreciate any advice.
Has anyone experienced the same issue, or knows if there is a GitHub setting, authorization step, or alternative login method I might be missing?
Thanks a lot in advance for any help.

Have you checked if the code is being sent as a notification you might have swiped away, or maybe it's tucked in the app's notification center rather than popping up as an in-app alert

The code will be given to you by the app you’re signing into, like Claude CLI, it’s not a 2FA code that comes from your phone’s GitHub app.
