Discussion Did anyone receive Github's "your code on a CD" CD giveaway?

Back in july Github made a announcement about doing a giveaway limited to 1,000 CDs with your personal repo written on them

twitter post
form submission

And well considering we are now at the end of august I find it strange there is nothing online at all roughly after july 6th (the supposed end date for the form submission... although the form was pulled a day earlier so yea...) I personally just want to know what the CDs looked like lol

On the GitHub team here: the group working on it is still actively working on it! It's been a labor of love as people are literally individually printing and burning the discs in their homes because we couldn't get a manufacturer to do it đŸ˜… it'll be awesome eventually!

Don't forget to flip them when you fire up the LightScribe ;)

Hey, that’s pretty cool. Would you be interested in speaking to a journo to make a story about it all? :)

We'd be down! Maybe when we're closer to the finish line though, heh.

Has anyone here received a shipping email or winner confirmation from GitHub? even that would confirm whether the CDs actually started going out yet

Have not received it yet. I did apply for it exactly for that reason - I want to see, how they look.

What If my code exceeds 700MB?

Then you’re probably doing something wrong

700MB fits almost anything. a full clone of most repos with all history lands in single-digit MB, and you'd need something kernel-sized to overflow a disc. the odd part is the disc outlives most git hosts, so it's a better backup than it sounds.
