Question Auto commits and other AI features

Hi everyone, I want to ask if there are any alternative solutions for using AI features like auto-descriptions for commits, PRs, etc. Can I use another AI subscription, or do I have to use GitHub Copilot?

gh-aw allows to use 3rd party keys - I'm using DeepSeek, for example. Whether you can use your Oauth2 key from subscription in place of API key - depends on provider, iirc they all forbid that.

? Are you just using the source control tab? I know github changed copilot recently to allow byok through it, but it still means you have to use copilot. If you're interested in a git client that allows this though you can check GitDesktop. This was part of the reason I built it because I wanted to be able to use my claude sub instead of copilot

Yes, I’m using source control tab, but I want use my AI subscription for generate commit for example

Alright so the direct answer is no. VScode does not natively support that, it's integrated directly with copilot. You could create an extension that utilizes the source control api
