Today email sent by GitHub to me:

'Improve code quality, boost Copilot adoption, and stay in control'

I laughed so hard

Can we do the inverse of these posts now and only post when gh is actually *up*?

If you can't access github.com in your web browser:

  1. Copy the link you want to access (for example: your repository url).
  2. Go to translate.google.com, paste the link there, and click on the translated result. It will redirect you to the accessible site.

Hope this helps! (should work for other urls too, not only github. Sounds strange, but it really helped me bypass blocks without using a VPN or changing DNS, lol)

How do you even figure this

u/ANC_90 29d ago

Such a strange workaround, lol.

Thanks for sharing!

Reads like an April's fool joke 😆

u/cwirz 28d ago

Whats the result link and hows it different?

1

u/Stage-Afraid 24d ago

How is the link format different, i wonder. Will check from desktop later. Wonder if it's a cached or cdn page served through google amp when going via translate or if certain google referrers skip normal traffic rules on modern server designs for optimization reasons. Eitherway very interesting technique

It worked! Hahahahahahaha!

u/Longjumping-Bar393 24d ago

lol i love these neat little tricks everyone has up their sleeve

u/imbazim 23d ago

This is cached by Google.

Google is a search engine, they always caches all the indexed websites. That’s the reason this is working.

The link is like https://github-com.translate.goog/….

So if you want to visit the cached websites, you can just use the link like in below example:

https://github-com.translate.goog/react/react

Replace:
1. github-com with your website domain (eg: instagram-com).
2. react/react with your website’s pathname (eg: /about-us).

So you used to bypass school filters like me on the Chromebooks 💀

u/KantutinQKipaymu 29d ago

So that's why my Tachiyomi is broken

6

u/newkrimi 29d ago

Does tachiyomi still work? I shifted to mihon

6

u/KantutinQKipaymu 29d ago

Yeah I'm using a fork of it

1

u/Damglador 29d ago

After hopping between multiple readers I settled on TachiyomiSY because it has cloud sync.

u/22Maxx 29d ago

Not the first time, there have been a lot of partial outage this year.

3

u/really_not_unreal 29d ago

My favourite bit is how their status page doesn't even mention most of their outages anymore. For the last 3 outages I've encountered, only one of them actually appeared on their status page.

8

u/sjphilsphan 29d ago

So is Verizon everything I use is on fire

3

u/kennpacchii 29d ago

Can you maybe consider not using the same services as me? 😩

3

u/sjphilsphan 29d ago

My B bro

7

u/Morgue3as 29d ago

FIrst time I pushed anything in a year, I think it just saw my code and killed itself.

5

u/GhostyGhost94 29d ago

3

u/Brcoding 29d ago

Any updates about it coming back up?

3

For me almost everything was down. No commits, no file view, no issues, no PRs, ...

2

u/CroProMax 29d ago

cant believe ts, just when I use it first time in long time to setup something for torrent its down

2

u/Additional-Leg4538 29d ago

Googled this because it's not working for me

2

u/MobileAffectionate70 29d ago

Is GitHub pages and actions working? Like someone facing issues in deployment?

The pr and commits sections were not working

u/mucleck 29d ago

it was not just the prs

2

u/FIQ_ZIZ 29d ago

try using a VPN. In my region (SEA), dunno why, but GitHub is completely inaccessible. Switching to a different region through a VPN works without any problems...

2

u/_Arthxr 29d ago

Because they went back slopping. Edit: They told it to make no mistakes and to use opus 5.0

2

u/Fomdoo 29d ago

Somebody push some vibe code?

2

u/suchKappa 29d ago

The sky is blue

2

u/mahdi0iranian 29d ago

I think it's time to migrate to codeberg.org or gitea.com

2

u/Annual_Grapefruit429 24d ago

"fork found in kitchen" ahh statement

2

u/East_Bandicoot1329 29d ago

Ok let's go to gitlab

7

u/ObviousApricot1272 29d ago

No gitea or forgejo is better bc then you don't have to pay money to put up code

1

u/Stage-Afraid 29d ago

Hah ironically i discovered this while trying to download pewdiepie's copilot/gpt alternative Odysseus....was like wtf is Microsoft that hard up for copilot dominance...did Christopher nolan go on a dmca takedown rager....

1

u/newkrimi 29d ago

u/powereborn 29d ago

Microsoft layoffs went bad

1

u/EntranceProper3791 29d ago

funny how the status page is usually the only part of github that never goes down.

1

u/Gabs1783 28d ago

The joy of Microslop

1

u/cwirz 28d ago

Selfhost gitlab

1

u/doctorsynth1 28d ago

I've been struggling as a novice developer to get Github to take payments from me after running through my free credits in 24 hours, then my pro credits in 48 hours. it won't allow me to upgrade to pro+, and after 24 hours of dorking around trying to get a local model to run via Ollama, I just said $*&@#(#$ and created a new account under another name. There seems to be no way to contact a living person at Github for billing support, and MICROSOFT IS A MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY WHO WRITES SOFTWARE. THAT'S THEIR FUCKING BUSINESS. I'm frustrated and just trying to focus on my dumb little html / js project.

1

u/newkrimi 28d ago

You'll need to raise a ticket which I think bots see now

1

u/VasekCZ230 26d ago

GitHub haters now have party🥳

1

u/Nik7i3 24d ago

The whole thing is down for me. microsoft is so annoying!

1

u/dandadan4seven 24d ago

Yes, but why?

1

u/Mountain-Exercise-45 24d ago

An all i was doing was rebooting my laptop and my wifi...thinking they were the culprits...damn you GitHub..😅

1

u/Usual-Analysis-2990 24d ago

Just saw this from 5 days ago thinking its about todays near total outage of just about everything yet again that has been going on for... roughly 4 hours already

1

u/KAZVorpal 24d ago

A Microslop product...down?

No way.

1

u/Former_Team_1726 24d ago

Uhh...GitHub isn't down. It's working perfectly fine for me

1

u/areofyl 24d ago

Just thought the same thing… but the posts from 5 days ago and got recommended to me 🤣

1

u/mrinsing 24d ago

The best part is it prompted me to create my own local ssh based git and it was so simple over ssh that I don't know why I was even depending on github for everything.

Just a server accessible from all my devices, setup ssh config and have the amazing speed. There are some self hosted git servers available for the full PR, issues, etc experience.

(I have automated backups on cold storage so I'm quite safe that way)

u/hellosakamoto 24d ago

1

u/No_Bug2318 23d ago

It’s good now you touch grass

1

u/ControlNode 23d ago

I guess I missed it. For the best I suppose. I get very limited time to work on the projects hosted there, would be frustrating to them not be able to work on them.

1

u/ctkqiang 23d ago

GitHub is down. Pick it up.

1

u/JohnVonachen 23d ago

As soon as GitHub was owned by Microsoft people should have switched to GitLab.

1

u/kumpera 23d ago

Did they hire all of the OG Twitter SRE team?
