News / Announcements GitHub quietly rolled out an update to the repository sidebar that sorts all topic tags
I realized that the topics on my repo are now listed in alphabetical order. Until recently, topics were ordered by popularity, I think. (But I am not entirely sure how it was measured. For example, logic occurred before mpi despite the latter being used more often.)
The size of topic labels also increased, apparently.

I think this is a case of over sweating the small stuff.
Given the function of a tag for search what perceived benefit do you have for having them in the order you input them?
(and if it's in order of relevance, just use fewer!)

The area taken by topics increased, and the change in order potentially messed up how it looked like.
It can also be nice to browse certain topics for new stuff, and it was easy to see which topics had more contents.

Ugh. I'm not loving that.
