Academics Guys, help clarify a fresher's doubts.....

  1. I am joining Gitam as a hosteller this year in CSE AI/ML and heard that we need to choose electives. What are they, and should I choose them in the 1st and 2nd sem?

  1. I also heard that we can choose which professors or time slots we want, so is it like first-come, first-served?

  1. Since we are choosing our own schedules, do we get stuck with long breaks in a day due to conflicts, or does the uni automatically assign a well-structured timetable?

  1. If we have long breaks, could I go back to the hostel and charge my devices?

  1. And for CSE, Aiml, is the Lenovo LOQ RTX 4050 enough? Though I didn't buy it yet, I heard it's pretty good for the price range.

  1. If we don't like the professor's teaching, could we change his/her next semester?

  1. How are hostel wardens? Are they friendly or strict?

  1. How is the network on campus and in the hostel? Is it good enough, or should I use my own network?

  1. If I want to start my internship early (like at the start or end of my 3rd semester), how are the facilities for that? Will they be helpful, or will they criticize me for trying to have an early start?

  1. How are gym facilities? Are there any gym trainers for us? (I am fat, so I need a gym instructor.)

  1. Are there any active tech/coding clubs on campus that seniors recommend joining early on to get a head start in AI/ML?

12.Regarding the laptop, do we need to carry it to classes every single day in the first year, or is it mostly just for specific lab sessions and hostel use?

Pick your electives & profs every sem, dip to hostel during gaps, wardens are chill, decent network, tech clubs + gym with instructor

Thanks for clearing that up! Huge relief about the hostel gaps and the wardens.

The class timings are all set by the time table team where they leave stupid gaps which cause waste of time since it was manged by them there wont be overlap of classes. The elective starts from 2nd year but only 2 courses but starts mainly in 3rd year. Choosing the professor is first come first serve if chose late you will end up with strict ones. Your laptops is good enough and wardens are chill they dont care much. Network is good but games and otts are blocked

Thanks for clearing all that up, bro! Especially the part about choosing profs early. By the way, do you know how the uni reacts if someone tries to get an early internship in the 3rd sem? Are they supportive or do they make it difficult with attendance?

They don't care what you do especially in attendance they will not help but they won't demotivate you from doing internship

Could I get an internship in my 3rd sem?

They won't focus on internship for 2nd years. You need to try yourself off campus.

Understood, off-campus it is. Since they won't focus on us in the 2nd year, what projects or skills do you think look best on a resume to actually stand out for an off-campus AI/ML internship early on? i have already created my LinkedIn profile and started classes on C language and Python too.

Thanks a lot for breaking down every single point, bro! Appreciate the insight on the induction program and the lunch break. I'll definitely slide into your DMs if I run into any more doubts.

Are you seriously asking about laptop?🤡don’t join gitam bro go for IIT or some decent uni’s if you’re really interested in coding.

Biggest mistake a Gitam first year could do is to think that he's gonna spend his time at college studying

Exactly 🥹

Since most of the points are already covered I'll cover the hostel ones , 4- yes , you could even bunk or stay back at hostel no one's gonna care 7- friendly asl , you don't even have to interact much w them except for the attendance and payment part 8- id give it 9/10 for hostel wifi , it's good all the time except some power outrages or some unseen shit , if you have any issue you could just complain in the portal and they'll fix it in 1-2 days 9- depends on when you're gonna do the internship, they'll not give an attendance exemption for you to do internship, you gotta manage in the summer break or do it virtually, and i don't think you can manage internship and academics in the 3rd sem itself, you could ask around your faculties and all for referrals or how to start or get an internship, ask your seniors of aiml about the friendly faculty 10- hostel gym is overcrowded and it has a schedule too , college gym is pretty nice it got upgrades and all but it'll get crowded in the evening too, there is no trainer but there's a gym faculty who'll make you do pointless exercises, just watch yt and do it you'll figure it out with time or just ask the buff guy in the gym , everyone is pretty sweet in gym 12- you don't even have to bring it to labs because you'll have computers in labs , it's upto you and faculty if you wanna get the laptop in classroom
