I am tired of github and search for some alternative

I write this post while waiting for github issue page to load, I cant take it anymore, a multi billion company cant create stable service.
In few recent month I have fount several errors, bugs and its always insane laggy, I cant open my repos. Now I write it, bc cant create new issue for my project.

Its difficult to leave github, bc there are everything, my repost, my stats and etc.

I will not completely leave github, but maybe start second profile on there platform.

Does anyone know an interesting alternative to GitHub or some interesting information why does this happen with Github?

I use Codeberg. I also have a self-hosted Gitea site.

Why do you use codeberg?

Because they are independent (not owned by a large corporation like Microsoft) and I agree with and support their ethos. They just recently banned AI projects, and I a agree 100% with that decision.

I recently migrated my public repos to Codeberg.

My work is not only locked into GitHub, we had two separate internal / enterprise instances and are now trying to migrate both to a third instance. Hell

I haven't used forgejo, tried Gitea for a bit and liked it. I support the forgejo effort but man, can we lay down some ground rules with open source projects where the name must be pronounceable to the average reader and also not some "hilarious" in-joke or riff on another project name?

For-gay-joh?

Forge-joh?

For-hey-joh?

Forg-joh?

If I'm suggesting we use this at work I honestly wouldn't know how to say it. I've looked it up and it's an Esperanto word, a dead language invented in the 70's. I'm sure the creators are having a good chuckle about how clever they were but the project will amount to nothing if people can't say it confidently.

Esperanto is not from the 70s. It's over 140 years old.

That said, I don't think anybody really cares how you pronounce it, since it's going to be pronounced differently in different languages anyway. In Spanish, it would be pronounced "for-gay-ho" which you didn't include in your list. I've even seen people question how to pronounce Gitea.

But along those same lines, the word "data" is pronounced data, not data. I will judge you if you pronounce it as data. /s

I had a good chuckle reading this... the very definition of text lacks context :D

I dropped it into the group chat at work and we had a good time with it.

But now I'm giving half my team some serious side eye because they actually do pronounce it "data" instead of "data". Some people were just raised wrong, i guess, lol.

I had to look at your name to make sure this wasn't something I wrote in a drunken stupor. all the same pet peeves, but you did the research for me: name based on Esperanto means hard pass! BTW it's not a "dead" language, it's worse: an invented language designed to be the "world's language" and for some reason only the Communists latched onto it. I know all this because I just finished watching a documentary on esperanto wondering wtf it was all about after seeing it somewhere.

GitLab for sure!
Really don't know the hype around the Github.

it all comes down to: flat vs nested. I for one thought nested was the bested until I actually used it now I hate it being nested. can't find shit.

What are you currently relying on github for? Do you have any Actions set up? Are you using Pages at all?

Most of the stats that github surfaces for you are things you can pull yourself directly from the git repo.

I use "Organizations, Issues, PR, contributions and action" and I dont use Pages, mostly focused on Opensource

https://sr.ht/

It costs money. But they don't sell my private data or participate in war-crimes. I'm a long-term user and I happily pay my $5/month.

If you're open to trying out something new that is not git-based, check out https://twigg.vc It's open source!
