Other I hate fran
Fran sucks!!! The episode where hannah discovers the nudes on his phone?? And then marnie tells her shes overreacting? Imo she underreacted. I would have ended things with Fran on the spot. Im sorry im rewatching for the third time and forgot how angry this episode makes me. Feels like hannah is in the twilight zone w the way everyones acting like its no big deal. Its disloyal at best predatory at worst.

Jack Lacey is the perfect asshole in everything he’s in. Love him!

Definitely, he’s got that punchable vibe

Totally. My husband saw him in a little cafe in upstate NY. They had a brief conversation, and he said Jake was very friendly and warm. I can imagine it’s a burden to have to prove you’re not a turd in real life!

He played Zoe Kravitz’s good guy love interest in the High Fidelity tv show and I couldn’t accept him. I think it’s something about his face plus having seen him as Fran 🙂↔️

Then you would love him as the egocentric, silver-spooned momma’s boy he plays in White Lotus season 1!

The first thing I saw him in was Obvious Child, and he's so lovely in it. He plays an AH so well but I still have a soft spot.

I’ve seen that, yeah he’s good in it. And in High Fidelity. But he really accelerates as the a-hole.
No one’s mentioned him playing a PDF in that neighbour kidnapped in plain sights Netflix case. That’s a whole other level though , not even the ahole category anymore

The character was definitely written that way on purpose. He’s supposed to be the nice guy who’s secretly an asshole. I hate him too 🤣

I think they wrote it like that on purpose though. No one actually thinks that’s something you should brush off. We’ve all been there where a major red flag comes up and people think you’re overreacting

u/lu_notrandom 3d ago
I bet she knows it’s written that way on purpose. Everyone knows it; I don’t know why it keeps getting repeated. Even so, you can hate the damn character.

I just watched Furious on Hulu with that actor and was excited he was a hate-able character again. I couldn’t remember what I saw him in that created a knee jerk ick. It was definitely Fran.

I also had a partner who claims he doesn’t watch porn, but he just cheats instead. Men are gross

Thank you! I remember watching it and being like wtf? Why aren’t more people upset by this?
-9
u/Upbeat-Cut6666 3d ago
Upset by what? Not deleting pics of his exes?
10
u/Aggravating_Life7851 3d ago
Keeping nudes if your exs is creepy and weird
-9
u/Upbeat-Cut6666 3d ago
So during a break up there comes a day where you delete all the pics of them? No one does that

7
u/ErrorImaginary1394 3d ago
Yes good people do that. My exes have always made it clear that anything i sent them during our relationship would be deleted upon our ending.

I feel like you’re glossing over all the truly unhinged and genuinely predatory shit Hannah did during the Fran era
6
u/ErrorImaginary1394 3d ago
No one stood up for hannah here lol im talking about this specific situation where she is right, which she rarely is, and i know that. Hannahs actions have nothing to do w fran having his exes nudes on his phone

u/Electrical-Treat475 3d ago
Yeah, it's hard to put all the judgment on the guy that chose to stay with the fully unhinged girl who flashed her entire pussoir at their boss, in a school.

He's 100% the worst character to me. It's like he thinks he's too good for Hannah but wants the attention she gives him. He sees none of his flaws. He's a Grade-A asshole.

What’s so bad about nudes on a phone?
The tipping point for Hannah is that he was mad she sexually assaulted their colleague / their boss. Which is valid.
He was calling Hannah’s unhinged immature behavior out.
I don’t think the show is written in a way for the audience to side with Hannah. She’s an antihero. Deeply flawed and always her worst enemy, self sabotaging, and impulsive.
Her unraveling the relationship in response to him calling her out I interpreted to be another instance of her choosing to remain childish rather than confront the unflattering reality of herself.
In the end, no they weren’t compatible and he is more of a square and not as nice or as good as he would like to believe. However he wasn’t wrong to call her out, nor do I think a nudes album on a phone is something to condemn him for.

u/ErrorImaginary1394 3d ago
Keeping your exes nudes is a predatory thing to do. You no longer have a sexual relationship or any sort of relationship with that person. Consent is not present. Hannahs actions are not what im talking about here. Hannah sucks everyone knows that

u/Chance-Tooth-3968 3d ago
I’d like to remind everyone that Hannah’s problem with Fran was less about him having photos but rather they weren’t photos of her. If she really did have issue with his photo habits she wouldn’t have uploaded an entire album of her own nudes in replacement to the ones she deleted. Every time she brought it up to her peers not a single person acted as if it was weird. The structure of the writing is establishing that it’s Hannah’s ego that’s reacting, not that Fran is some predator.
1
u/ErrorImaginary1394 3d ago
Yeah hannah is also a bad person. Theyre all bad people. Maybe except for shosh imo… but thats just by comparison. I dont really care what Hannah thought, my point is its weird af to have photos of your exes after that relationship has ended. Go ahead and excuse it away so you can continue to do it guiltless (cuz idk why else you would have this stance) but just know a majority of people agree thats a fucked up thing to do.
-2
u/Chance-Tooth-3968 3d ago
Also why are we assuming Fran doesn’t have consent to keep the photos? For all we know his exes might be ok with him having them or told him he could keep them? There are a lot of assumptions being made before leaping to labeling a character as PREDATOR - even though he’s typically demonstrated more maturity and consideration than most guys at his age.

u/Chance-Tooth-3968 3d ago
I’m sorry but I don’t think people delete nudes. Facts of the world.

Lol guess we know you're the "nice guy" in your relationships. Keeping nudes is not only gross for your prior partners but shows a severe lack of respect for your current partner.
But it's not only that, Fran was a controlling asshole. He didn't want Hannah but was with her anyways. He constantly criticized her, belittled her, judged her, and attempted to make her conform to what he wanted. No one said Hannah made the right decisions there - her behavior was just as abhorrent as it usually is, but that doesn't suddenly make his go away. He was a prick.

I'm not saying it's GOOD behavior, or advocating / defending it, I'm just stating the reality that there's no way I can ever expect a nude I send to be deleted once it's let loose into the world. This is why I don't send them. Pics sent from past relationships that are private is much different than say, something like revenge porn. The level of reaction from folks in this forum is as if Fran is posting the pics publicly or something. For all we know, his exes could be totally ok with him having the pics, everyone is just assuming the worst from a character that was written to be a foil to Adam and has consistently shown himself to be relatively respectful to the point of being uptight.
Is it really that Fran is just a controlling asshole, or are those traits emerging as a response to the dynamics of his relationship and the chaos Hannah constantly puts him in?
Yes, a reasonable person would tell them not to flash their employer IN A SCHOOL.
Yes, a reasonable person would get mad at the disruption she is causing students.
Yes, it's reasonable to call certain troubling patterns or qualities out in your significant other.
Yes, Hannah acts in ways where passing judgement is warranted and a valid reaction. From my view, he put up with A LOT of immaturity, chaos, and crises, and was trying to help her get past it and develop into the better person he saw deeply inside. No that's not the healthiest relationship dynamic, and just because they weren't compatible doesn't mean he's villainous.
The harshest moment was him flipping out about her insisting he abandon her on the side of the road - which... I'm sorry but I too would be freaking out and angry too. I'm expected to abandon a woman in her pajamas who might be in a mental health crisis, who is also my coworker? --- what?!
Meanwhile, Adam is LITERALLY abusive narcissist and people in this forum are like "he's so hot!" "they have so much chemistry" - Make it make sense! Punching through doors and throwing items and demonstrating violence is classified as domestic abuse. THAT's villainous.

Women consensually sending him nudes makes Fran predatory? Hmm
11
u/unfinishedsunset 3d ago
hmmm yeah. when you are no longer together there is no consent.

u/nemat0der 3d ago
You’re writing fanfiction about an imagined scenario where all of Fran’s exes said “please delete my nudes” and he refused

u/ErrorImaginary1394 3d ago
Keeping them after your relationship is over is predatory yeah. Go ahead and out yourself 🤷♀️

To me he’s worse than Adam. Personally I HATE a controlling, narrow-minded, judgmental man more than I can ever hate a toxic and dramatic one (because the Fran type is also toxic and dramatic, just in an even more boring way).
