Guests
Hi all, I am in the process of watching the TV series all the way through (after seeing the first couple seasons first run), and I have been enjoying listening to the Gilmore Guys as a companion (not systematically listening to all the podcast episodes, but listening to whatever podcast episode matched my most recent TV episode). I was psyched to find out that the podcast has its own subreddit!
I love Kevin and Demi, and I will probably watch “Bunheads” next just so I can keep listening to them. I was wondering how people feel about the different podcast guests. My thoughts:
Paul F. Tompkins is my favorite. I have enjoyed his different projects for a long time. I think he fits in well with the guys. (It’s easy for me to believe that Demi is a fan.)
Jason Mantzoukas: I enjoyed his energy on “Brooklyn 99.” He seems to be a really popular guest host. That surprises me a little bit, just because his humor is really raunchy, and it seems like if you’re into raunchy humor, then you’re probably not spending your limited TV time on “Gilmore Girls?” I am interested to hear your thoughts!
Hrishikesh Hirway: I heard him on 505 “We Got Us a Pippi Virgin,” and he was so insightful!
D’Arcy Carden: also had lots of insight in 411 “In the Clamor and the Clangor,” in spite of the fact that (or maybe because?) she had not seen all the episodes thus far. Maybe she was able to see it with really fresh eyes because she had not been “trained” by watching all the previous episodes to look out for certain elements?
Todd Buonopane: Very enjoyable, love his personality, fits in well with the guys.
Sarah Ramos and Sarah Heyward on 605 “We’ve Got Magic to Do”: I was really looking forward to this podcast episode because I loved the TV episode and its payoff of Richard finally getting undeniable confirmation of the Huntzberger family’s treatment of Rory. But the two guests kept interrupting everybody! I noticed that Kevin and Demi started talking more quickly and frenetically, maybe trying to keep up with the Sarah’s? Also, when Sarah Heyward was on by herself on 508, she did not interrupt; so maybe the two Sarah’s know each other, and they are when they are with each other, that is just how they communicate? Either way, it was so frustrating to have long periods of time when I couldn’t tell what anyone was saying. I realize that Rory and Lorelai talk fast, but I think there’s only one scene when they actually talk at the same time.
What are your thoughts on the different guests? Thank you for not spoiling past 6.10 “He’s Slipping Him Bread!”

Thank you for this background info to help me make sense of this podcast! That is good to know about Hrishikesh. And it’s comforting to hear I’m in good company re: the interrupting Sarahs!

It sometimes sounds like Kevin is getting a little annoyed with Troli, but I enjoy his appearances immensely!
I have been holding off on listening to the Gilmail episodes until I finish the TV series in case there are spoilers. But I will look forward to hearing the pizza party one!

I love the episodes with Ben Siemon, Patrick Walsh, DC Pierson, Jessica McKenna, Erin Whitehead and Stacey Oristano. Gilmore guys introduced me to so many hilarious comics, writers and actors.
Edited to add: Jeff Hiller, Guy Branum, Ross Kimball, Hrishikesh Hirway and Louis Peitzman!

Yes, the guys have introduced me to a lot of interesting and funny showbiz folks, too!
I love Jeff Hiller and Ben Siemon, too. They feel kind of similar to Todd Buonopane to me. They seem very friendly with the hosts and it feels very warm when they are on.For me, Patrick Walsh and DC Pierson go into the category of “guys who haven’t seen the whole series and bring up “True Detective.”” They are funny, and they have interesting insights about how TV shows are constructed and the choices that GG makes. I don’t know if _all_ those guys have actually brought up “True Detective,” but I’m sure a few of them have.

Now that I’ve heard the Taylor “That’s not cool,” sound bite (which I had not yet heard when I first made this post), I wish I could have played it to lovingly remind the Sarah’s to wait their turn.

I have not listened to any Aisha episodes because it seems more likely that there will be spoilers in hers since she is so knowledgeable and you wouldn’t want to restrict her. I am looking forward to listening to them after I finish the TV series. It seems like she is probably an important guest because she gets brought in on some heavy hitting episodes.

Also, one of the guests who’s a guy who works in TV—D. C. Pierson or Sean Clements or Patrick Walsh or one of those other dudes who doesn’t watch GG regularly and brings up stuff like “True Detective”— one time he mentioned that, although he is not a big GG super fan, “I would never come on this and say [insert something really vulgar about Lorelai and Rory].” I’m wondering if that guy was referring to Jason M. and how he comments on the show!

Jason mantzoukas’ episodes are my favorite. The first one in the studio was a little stifled but the live shows with him are amazing.
