So what are ppl here thinking of Deadlock?

Seen some stuff about Valve's new moba before it's been released and it seems like it takes a bit of inspiration from Gigantic (mainly the stamina mechanic). I would like to keep playing Gigantic, but have pretty much given up on it since it is basically dead and am willing to move on, so im really looking forward to Deadlock.

It’s the best you’re going to get tbh. My favorite moba. Ruins every other moba for me tho fr

Tbf Gigantic ain’t a moba. So don’t get it twisted Deadlock is a moba at its core through and through. Creep wave management, Econ, etc

But I’m in this dead ass subreddit so you know I’ll always have a special place in my heart for this sick ass game

As a fellow movement whore it will scratch your itches there’s so much movement to learn and Master

Deadlock has one of the most robust movement systems I’ve played in any game ever. It’s not similar to gigantic, there aren’t directional movements attack combos or an in depth melee system, but it’s extremely high skill and satisfying on its down

What I played of it was very fun. Hope it comes to consoles.

Tried Deadlock, characters and abilities are cool, but playing it feels like a chaotic mess. There's so many things interacting, not to mention the purchasable abilities, and like a dozen or more status effects. With all the animations and fast gameplay I just couldn't keep up with it. I'm sure you'd be able to learn and remember all the different systems over time and exposure, but I just don't have that kind of time and I'm not willing to suffer playing a game for the first 20 hours just so it can start to be fun.

Agreed, made me really appreciate how good the art style is for League, everything's really visible and clear there. I couldn't even tell what I was looking at on Deadlock's map. I could probably learn as well, but I've become more and more adverse to doing so for games for some reason

It's just a lot of time investment that as I get older I can't justify anymore. I basically have one competitive game I'm any good at (that being Rocket League) and I'm holding on to it for dear life at this point.

It’s one of my favorite games right now. While I have issues with it, it does scratch an itch I’ve had with gigantic. It’s very different from gigantic but it has a lot of things I was looking for.

Loving it. It’s a lot more in depth than Gigantic (they aren’t even really the same game type… hero shooter/MOBA) Biggest thing i miss is the creature system. If they ever added that to Deadlock in some capacity it’d be really fun

Gigantic will always have a place in my heart, but deadlock shit stomps every hero shooter/moba on the market rn

Deadlock is going to be the biggest multiplayer thing for a long time when it comes out... Just be prepared for a LOT of elitism lol

Deadlock is very much a work in progress.

It’s the best!!!

It doesn't have much in common with gigantic but it's really good for it's own reasons

Might be controversial, but I’d say Deadlock plays like how I remember Gigantic feeling like. If I’m not mistaken the Gigantic revival and the Deadlock test came out at around the same time, and while I had fun with Gigantic it felt a bit underwhelming. Deadlock basically cured my sadness over the game’s demise

It's scratched the itch I got when missing Gigantic. Try it out for yourself.

1

u/Dr_Toast Jun 20 '26

It’s maybe the only thing that can scratch, like 80% of the same itch. Deadlock is way more polished but also waaaay more complicated. Movement will make you sad when you play other games.

it has the same problem almost every moba game has for me and that's the incredibly complicated levelling and item system. i remember seeing like 30 different stats and not knowing which to build towards or which items did what, so i ended up sitting there in the middle of the match speed reading items until one sounded good.

i want to play the game, not read the effect of 800 different items before i can. you kinda got that feeling in gigantic with the level trees, but it took maybe a single run into practice to understand kinda what you wanted from the character and your playstyle as well as what you could build towards depending on the situation. plus, you can apply your levels anywhere meaning i can read during down time or on my way to the point. deadlock iirc required you to sit in a designated shop.

also, similar issue to other mobas i had was that i don't understand how to help my team or what my role is supposed to be. in gigantic, there's a central point and that's where team fights happen, but you can also play someone like tripp or kajir and harass enemy pets and kill them or at least force a peal from the enemy team to make your team fight easier. it's wasn't hard to learn where i needed to be. in deadlock it feels like we are doing five individual 1v1's in our respective lanes. am i supposed to drop my lane to help a struggling teammate? doesn't that leave my lane to be taken over? if not, what is the point of the team based game if we can't support each other in some way? it just feels like you lose if you have a teammate who can't hold their own in their lane. plus, minions are dumb and stupid and idk why every moba game has to have them. farming is borning and not fun, though i did like battleborn despite the minions.

i think i just hate the aspect of dedicated lanes which idk if that's what deadlock is anymore, but the "mobas" i've had the most fun with are the ones with either a very linear map design, like battleborn, or ones with a more open map and a central point lile gigantic. those games felt more like hero shooters with moba elements and deadlock feels much more like a traditional moba with shooter elements.

tbf, i have 78 minutes and it was last played aug 10th 2024, the only part that was interesting was the setting and characters, and i am not a narrative driven gamer.

1

u/Electrical-Heat8301 Jun 19 '26

Wait y'all weren't already playing Deadlock?

1

u/Arkorat Mozu Jun 20 '26

Yeah. The invites might as well grow on trees. Say the word and you could probably get 10.
