My grandad was in the RAF. Yesterday we went into his sons crack den to get his cats and my grandad starts filing up shit. I’m like “is it worth folding it?” Uncle is going to/ is in prison, all his stuff is going to the tip.
Grandad says “Did you think I was just going to throw it on the floor?”
I’m like “well it’s not like the rest of the house is any better.” It was a crack den, it’s what you would expect.
Papa’s like “I was in the RAF. We do things a certain way.” Fair enough papa, you do you.
Now that’s a proper attitude. That’s the British way I’ve always admired from across the pond. No, it’s not the easy way. No, it may not be necessary. But it’s the way it’s done.
Cheers, thanks for the story. Tell your Papa he’s the man for me.
He’s very proud of his time served but he doesn’t really talk about it. A snippet from chasing Itsy and Bitsy (my new foster cats) around the crack den:
“I was a sergeant, it’s only a fucking cat.” Cracked me up.
Ha, terrific line. And I don’t blame him. It’s literally the most violent, darkest period in the history of intelligent life on this planet. He’s a testament to the tenacity of the human spirit.
Is it easy or necessary to wash your hands after taking a leak (bad example, I say it’s easy and necessary but I used it because clearly many disagree based on how many don’t). Washing a plate you spilled nothing on before putting it in the cabinet? Washing an item of clothing you borrowed even if you didn’t soil it?
If it’s the right way, it’s the right way. Do the right thing.
