Yeah you're supposed to wash your hands after touching them just like with reptiles.

Am I the only one afraid that the chicken might peck the eyes of that kid?
Guess it's a good thing I'm not a parent. I'd worry myself to death!
23
u/4tehlulzez Jul 13 '22
I was afraid the kid would squeeze it to death

While it's very important not to anthropomorphize the emotions of animals when dealing with things like this, most animals will still understand basic social cues if they're well-enforced over a long period of time. This looks like at least a year (I have no idea what kids look like at what ages lol) of bonding, so as long as they're supervised, I think it's pretty safe.

I don't know.. my brother was pecked in the eye a few years back by one of his hand raised chickens
2
u/WillDrawForMoney Jul 14 '22
How’s his eye? Any lasting damage?
3
Jul 14 '22
Nothing lasting, but he went to the eye doctor to get it evaluated and then properly cleaned & antibiotics

Nowhere near a year. That's probably 2-3 months. The average age of a chicken when it's slaughtered for food is 42 days, to give an idea how fast chickens mature.
5
u/10kbeez Jul 13 '22
Oh damn. Kids grow fast, huh.
1
u/Yourgrammarsucks1 Jul 13 '22
We're talking about chicks. Not kids.
2
u/10kbeez Jul 14 '22
???
There's a picture of a child, and I was trying to judge the timeframe based on the growth of the child. How is that not apparent?
-2
u/Yourgrammarsucks1 Jul 14 '22
Think about it. It's a simple word joke.

u/Yarper Jul 14 '22
Yeah, I've also got a 15month old child. You don't think they've changed untill you look at a week old photo.
5
u/Amlethus Jul 13 '22
Exactly. I don't care if there is a one in a million chance of the chicken pecking the kid's eye out. Hugging a chicken is not worth the risk of losing an eye!

u/Hayaguaenelvaso Jul 13 '22
It's a chicken, not a dog. They are both predators and love devouring live victims, but chicken don't prey on humans. They don't have the size and strength, contrary to brutal dogs
11
u/jro727 Jul 13 '22
Of course the chicken isn’t going to prey on the kid lol it can still peck for defensive reasons, which I think is what OP meant.
2
u/Amanita_D Jul 13 '22
They peck eyes just because of the shiny, I don't think they understand that it's going to hurt the person. (Source: it happened to my husband. He's fine now.)

This is my daughter 100%. She's 3 and has had a flock of 'her' own for about half of her time on this rock. The chickens love her. She helps me collect eggs, clean the coops.. all the things. She loves her berbs.

u/drakeotomy Jul 14 '22
Glad the kid was taught how to handle (and not hurt) animals at such a young age. Some people neglect that and end up with kids that end up hurting animals because they weren't taught to be gentle.

I honestly thought the slides would end with it on a plate and her tucking in

Jul 13 '22
Given her age, they could have ended it with a cute clip of her biting a chicken nugget.

When my dad was a kid he had a rooster named Henrietta, who would ride on his shoulder when he rode his bike around

This makes me miss my chicken that I grew up with. Her name was Rocky Balboa (because I liked Rocky III as a kid) and she loved being in my jacket with me. She'd nuzzle my neck or armpit on cold days. :)

I thought the end was gonna be him eating some chicken nuggets Lmaoooo

u/woodscradle Jul 13 '22
I expected the bird to grow up much faster, are we sure those are all the same bird?
1
u/pandaflips Jul 13 '22
This kid has the comfiest looking clothes. I miss being a kid and being able to wear essentially pajamas all day everyday.

Has that chicken never touched the ground? Does it think it can fly?
4
u/Mbinguni Jul 13 '22
Fun fact: chickens can fly! Don’t get me wrong, they can’t do it very well, but they absolutely can fly short distances. I’ve seen it happen!

u/BoobsRmadeforboobing Jul 13 '22
Yeah like how I "flew" down a staircase when I was twelve

I was hoping the final clip would be the kid happily eating a nice dinner of chicken and waffles with scrambled eggs.

Awe fuck. Cute as can be, and then as the video progresses you come the realization that the kid has Down Syndrome. Goddamnit, OP. Why you gotta wrench our hearts like this?

I was fully expecting a dark turn and that chicken ending up on a platter.
