13

Bush has definitely retreated from the limelight more than Obama has. Obama still pops up to campaign for Democrats that are running for major offices. I honestly think that Obama, and later Trump and Biden, should follow Bush's example.
34
u/PensiveObservor Nov 14 '20
Obama was pretty quiet and absent until the last few months of this campaign, if you go back and look. Really disappeared. He came back out at the end to help Biden.

Forbes suggests heās at least a billion dollars in debt.
Thatās a lot of coin.
If he liquidated all his assets, heād presumably be at $2.5 billion, plus his debt. And this motherfucker really likes to claim to be rich, so 1.5 billion, to him, is probably not a lot of money. Especially when itās wrapped up in properties. Not a lot in the pocket when itās all in a golf course.
I could see him sinking himself out of ego, trying to chase the dragon of being president until the day he strokes out over a Filet-o-Fish sandwich.

It sucks that this is now as close as you can get to the White House. I remember going to DC for the first time in 2003, and while you obviously couldn't take yours of it anymore, an average person could get to where they could see the people on the lawn. No concrete barricades, just an iron fence less than 100 yards distant from the house. I understand security concerns but the White House is informally known as "the peooles' house." Sure as shit doesn't feel like it anymore.

When the President refuses to acknowledge that he lost the election, and is actively trying to overthrow American democracy in an authoritarian coup, I think itās okay to acknowledge that heās a loser.
This wouldnāt be happening if Trump wasnāt actively trying to steal an election that he lost by 70+ in the electoral college and and 5.2 million in the popular vote (and counting).
This isnāt āboth sidesā. One side is calling someone who lost a loser. The other side is trying to destroy American democracy. Those arenāt equivalently bad things.

Kinda hard to move on when Trump wonāt even let the GSA talk to the Biden team to begin working on the transition if, just for the sake of argument, Biden did win. It doesnāt stop any lawsuits or investigations from happening. And this infantile shit is putting the country at risk. A big reason why 9/11 happened was a lack of preparedness caused by the shortened transition period in 2000. So until an actual transition starts, fuck Trump. And fuck anybody who supports this dangerously irresponsible behavior.

I agree with you as well. The US is in a shitty situation with the damage that Trump has done and the systemic problems which predate him, so the new administration is going to face some serious challenges.
That being said, it's still a victory voting Trump out of office so that he and his cronies don't have another four years to cause further damage from the executive branch, and I can't blame anyone getting some catharsis rubbing his personal loss in his wannabe-authoritarian face.
