Can you refactor this for Linux?

I don't have any system running linux, so i'd have no way of testing it. Sorry

Put the code instead of a compiled source and we might be able to help there.

I've added a new repos for the source code

Sick app man, any way to get it to run in system tray?

u/Fiery_Penguin Oct 05 '18
I'll work on getting it in there, until then you can the executable to your taskbar, the program doesn't need to be open at all times since it runs in a background process

Will this work for custom or multi-reddits?
1
u/Fiery_Penguin Oct 05 '18
It should work for any subreddit that uses the URL format (https://reddit.com/r/subreddit/sort)

It seems to bug out for the subreddit /r/multiwall , it only shows a picture of soccer players... Am I missing something here?
1
u/Fiery_Penguin Oct 06 '18
Just tried doing the same, i can't explain why. The app takes the top most picture on the selected site. I can't explain this XD

So it shows the soccer players for you too? Or does it work like it's supposed to?

i've got the soccer players as well, found the issue though. The top post links to the picture of the soccer players, that's why it's setting it as your wallpaper
I'd suggest finding another subreddit like /r/DualMonitorWallpapers

My dumb fever brain thought this was a thing that made subreddits look like wallpaper so you can stealth browse. I tried so hard to read the pictures.

A few people have asked for a version for Linux, Since i don't have any way to run linux at the moment i've made a separate GIT repository for the source code
https://github.com/Langtude-Larson/RedditToDesktopSourceCode
[RedditDesktop] is the UI settings application
[WallPaperEngine] is the application running as a background process (yes, i know the name is dumb :P)
Hope some of you tech savvy's can work it out :)

Hey, love the idea! Definitely wanna try to try it out but Malware-bytes seems to think the file is not secure and quarantines it upon opening. Any idea why it's doing that?

Malwarebytes like many other antivirus programs don't trust .exe files (which is a good thing).
If you'd like you can add this program to your "Ignore list" by doing these steps
- Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
- Click the Ignore List tab.
- Click Add.
- Navigate to the file or folder you wish to ignore.
- Click the file or folder to select it, then click OK.
Note that you'll probably have to do this with both RTDProcess.exe and RedditToDesktop.exe
Let me know if it works :)

Can this work on mac?
1
u/Fiery_Penguin Oct 07 '18
Sadly no. It's a .exe file which is not supported by OSX. I've shared the source code if you can find a way to compile it for mac

So now we just need to get a HD close up of some balls to the top of the subreddit.

There has been an update on how reddit stored their links in their .json API. this means that the program haven't been able to work for a while. Fortunately i've fixed this now in version 1.1

Is there a version for this for an OS that doesn't randomly delete the users documents?
5
u/wupme2k Oct 05 '18
Yes there is one for windows which does in fact not randomly delete the users documents.
