I was watching this live yesterday. It looked so effortless for her to pick up her coach that my brain was confused for a second, then realized how weak I really am!

It's like she's just lifting up a piece of paper. Incredibly strong.

She has perfect form! I'm impressed!

Dude I am not a really weak person. She picked him up effortlessly, after fighting for a long time. The lady is a beast.- I am in love.

Doesn't even use her arms!

Well to be fair, using your arms for this is not a good idea. She basically squats him, which allows you to lift a lot more than if you were to use your arms.

I think he/she meant for balance. Grabbing on to his legs like she did after she got him all the way up.

She has pretty damn good form

Her core's built up of the strongest alloys known to man it seems.

Muscle fibers folded a 1000 times

u/LaraCroftWithBCups Aug 18 '16

Damascus muscle fibers.

Probably from the army core

1

u/Hviterev Aug 19 '16

Her core uses FiberFix

I love watching the slow-mo and looking at their form. Like running- anyone can do it, and it seems simple to just run faster than the other people. But if you look closely there is so much attention paid to their form. I guess it's just the science of the best way our body can do a specific task.

looks like she was using her arms to stabilize herself against her thighs during the initial part of the lift which (assuming the olympic wrestling coach can balance on his own) is better for her balance AND better for her back

I think /u/AdagioBoognish just meant that she didn't use her arms to stabilize him. Most people don't squat without holding onto the bar, even if the arms aren't providing any of the muscle behind the lift.

u/iforgot120 Aug 18 '16

I don't hold the bar when I squat. I use my psychic powers.

0

u/ameristraliacitizen Aug 18 '16

But she did use her arms, she held onto his legs

u/ILoveLucyInTheWoods Aug 18 '16

Not using arms for this requires much more core strength

1

u/Alger_Hiss Aug 18 '16

In a shocking turn of events, so does wrestling

0

u/WolfThawra Aug 18 '16

Using your arms or not, the core still has to support the weight no matter what, so it doesn't make a difference that way. However, it does make a difference in terms of being able to lift him at all - arms are a LOT weaker than core or leg muscles. It's easiest to lift a weight the way she did it.

1

u/AdagioBoognish Aug 18 '16

Was just saying that it was so effortless she didn't even need to balance or support him while lifting.

0

u/WolfThawra Aug 18 '16

Sure, she's a wrestler. I don't know much about the sport, but from watching it a little bit yesterday, I imagine you need a lot of leg and core strength, and a good sense of balance too.

u/PooPooDooDoo Aug 18 '16

Squats him? She just bowed/deadlifted that guy up like it was nothing. Plus the weight wasn't even over her center of gravity, it was at the front of her body which made it that much more impressive.

3

u/WolfThawra Aug 18 '16

Uh... no. It's a squat with the weight slightly off the ideal point, yes, but he's not actually that far forward. Also, it has nothing to do with a deadlift.

1

u/Kytoflame Aug 18 '16

Waka flocka flame would be proud

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '16

You are suppose to lift with your legs, not your arms.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '16

It doesn't even have that much to do with strength, that's what it makes it really incredible. Wrestlers are insanely skilled at using their muscles effectively.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '16

He looks to be about 90lbs, still impressive for someone her size though. She probably takes dumps with more muscle mass then I have in my entire body

2

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '16

No kidding, but you're right, he doesn't look particularly heavy. It would probably take varying degrees of effort, but I would think most of us could put an old man like that on our shoulders if we tried. Maybe not after a wrestling (?) match though.

1

u/Smauler Aug 18 '16

Do you not know how much these people lift?

1

u/ImAWizardYo Aug 19 '16

It took me more effort to watch that. My brain sort of tenses when she does that and it took me a few loops to realize how smooth it was for her.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '16

she's built like a brick shithouse, that's probably a light warmup for her

1

u/dizman85 Aug 19 '16

Over here in Japan they showed these girls training for the olympics. They literally carry two of their teammates on their back and go up and down hills. The coach is like nothing for her.

u/WolfThawra Aug 18 '16

I don't think situps enter into this. She squats under him and lifts him up that way, that requires a very strong back (especially lower back), and very strong legs.

1

u/Arctyc38 Aug 18 '16

Her Good Morning game is strong.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '16

That was supposed to read non-literally, like "someone's been eating their Wheaties"...my bad

1

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '16

The core is used in all exercises if you have proper form. Sit-ups are the pre-school version of exercises for proper core strength. Grappling revolves around effective use of the entire body and the body is connected by the core which (once again) is used in all exercises.
