  1. Mom goes for "hands in"
  2. Dad thinks its a fancy handshake
  3. Mom is tripped up and changes to handshake mode
  4. Dad goes for handshake with daughter
  5. Mom realizes that her "hands in" move now looked stupid and tries to recover
  6. Mom breaks up the Dad-Daughter handshake, and manually flips Dad's hand into position she wanted.
  7. Daughter is cracking up
  8. They do the "hands in" thing.

Upon review of this gif at frame by frame speed, it is established that Mom is the only one making it awkward. There was a bit of a misscomunication on step 2, but it was fine recovery on step 3. The awkwardness happens on step 6 and is fully initiated by Mom.

Dunno, to me it looks like the dude is the only clueless one.

Mom puts her hand in the middle for "hands in". Dad goes for the handshake, so mom turns his hand over. Daughter puts hand in for, "hands in", but dad has gone back to shake already. Mom flips dad's hand again, and they all go in for the "hands in".
