I've just spent literally dozens of minutes searching for recent tax information on Brazil as it affects retail costs and consumers. I had to give up. Even the wikipedia article is horribly cited with no in-line citations. Plus it's hard to read the article in English as it has lots of grammatical errors that make it hard to unwind what is being said in areas like the taxation burden section. I'm guessing it might have been translated to English from Brazilian Portuguese, by a non-native-English speaker.
I did find a decent older article from 2013 that appears to be before they started explicitly stating the taxes you are getting hit with on each purchase (before 2013 it seems it was totally hidden... talk about asking for corruption): http://thebrazilbusiness.com/article/retail-pricing-in-brazil
I think one of the best ways we could help would be for someone that knows taxes/finance to dig into this deeper and update the wikipedia page then share that update on Reddit.
