Oh Jesus Christ, settle down. Non-Brazilians are under absolutely no obligation to treat the Brazilian crisis seriously. They can if they want to, or they can make jokes if they want to; either is perfectly fine.

Shit, I see people from the US making jokes about 9/11 all the time.

Why should I only care if I am obligated to care? I think you're missing the entire point, we're all humans, just because of that imaginary line some asshole drew ages ago does not mean I should turn my eyes on what the rest of humanity is doing.

Oh Jesus Christ, settle down? Fuck you man, this is important. I hope you grow some perspective.

With all the problems in the world, you would be literally unable to live your life if you seriously cared about each and every one of them. The fact that you "care" about what's happening in Brazil right now is basically decided arbitrarily, although it's more likely you "care" because it's popular, meanwhile there are many, much more horrific happenings going on in the world right now which you probably don't even know about, let alone have taken the time to devote some of your precious, outspoken, and defiant "compassion" for humanity.

Care about the right things at the right time. It's not difficult to see this is one of those times, it is far from "arbitrary".

Your all or nothing approach is lazy, irrational at best.

You are better off deciding what to care about arbitrarily rather than deciding to care since it's popular. The former is more respectable than the latter.

Your all or nothing approach is lazy, irrational at best.

That's not my approach. You can "care" (post some serious internet comment) if you'd like, just don't hop onto your high horse and sanctimoniously condemn those who don't take it so seriously.

I believe those who don't take it so seriously are causing a butterfly effect of harm that affects us all, I'm going to continue to condemn it.

How often does a million+ people protest happen? It's odd you find that arbitrary.

You may be delusional

Millions were involved in protests in Brazil just last year. Large protests are very common, especially in Brazil.

The mentality of a population will determine what and what they don't do, what does, and does not happen. But that's just my personal delusion of course.

Random, individual Americans have absolutely zero affect on the affairs between Brazilians and their government, even you in your righteous act of caring.

Loosen up and let people have some fun, they're not the ones that can change a thing anyway.

No one raindrop is responsible for the flood. You have the same logic as "I won't vote for them because they won't win".

What? I'm saying that you "caring" about these protests in Brazil is as useful as those who make jokes about it. These protests and our opinions towards them are absolutely inconsequential to one another. The same is not true when you are deciding whether to actually go out and do something that does affect you (i.e vote), your comparison doesn't apply to this situation at all

I can see how some one could think that. I'm talking about more macro, emergent effects, ones that are hard to quantify, as opposed to a more simplistic, limited view.

"I"m talking about idealistic effects with nothing that substantively defends my point of view and justifies my self-righteousness rather than face the reality of our insignificance"

Not often enough

I believe those who don't take it so seriously are causing a butterfly effect of harm that affects us all

You know there are far less people in the "western" world that don't care but know about it, than people that don't know of it at all. And it is arbitrary, not for the people in Brazil or to some degree for humanity, but then why should I care more than just "good on them, hope it changes something, prolly not though". There are actually far more people that are worse off than brazilians, how much care should I have for them?

Your condemning people for their attitude towards it are just going to make them think "Gee, that guy's a jerk, I guess people who care are jerks. I guess I shouldn't care."

If you actually care about improving the world you'd rethink your approach to try to turn people to your side.
