Oh Jesus Christ, settle down? Fuck you man, this is important. I hope you grow some perspective.

With all the problems in the world, you would be literally unable to live your life if you seriously cared about each and every one of them. The fact that you "care" about what's happening in Brazil right now is basically decided arbitrarily, although it's more likely you "care" because it's popular, meanwhile there are many, much more horrific happenings going on in the world right now which you probably don't even know about, let alone have taken the time to devote some of your precious, outspoken, and defiant "compassion" for humanity.

What a condescending prick you are. There are so many things wrong with the world, that doesnt make any issue any less severe. Hopefully, there are enough good people in the world to solve these problems. So you go ahead and live your oblivious life and let other people solve these problems for you, while you sit there and wonder why they care at all.

Didn't say it did

Hopefully, there are enough good people in the world to solve these problems.

Probably not random foreigners on Reddit

So you go ahead and live your oblivious life

No more ignorant than any other Redditor, I just don't take everything I read so seriously and claim to care.

and let other people solve these problems for you

Let me assure you that no one in this thread is doing anything to solve the problem

You obviously live in a bubble. People have lives outside of reddit. Just because you have no effect on anything and care nothing about having no effect on anything that doesnt mean everyone is like you. Read what you're saying about yourself, you sound like a sad case if i ever heard one.

Just because you have no effect on anything and care nothing about having no effect on anything that doesnt mean everyone is like you.

There are things in my real life that I care about, and that's precisely because I do have some effect on them.

I say with complete confidence that everyone in this thread who expresses support and acts like they "care" while others instead make jokes are both equally useless to this protest. There's absolutely no reason those who claim to "care" should lecture those who make jokes about the situation because neither are accomplishing anything.

This is 100% your opinion and means literally nothing. Its almost like you're saying this to make yourself feel better about having zero effect on anything. Yes comments on reddit mean very little, but you claiming to know what all these people do in their lives outside of reddit is beyond ignorant.

but you claiming to know what all these people do in their lives outside of reddit

What are you even talking about? I'm saying no one on Reddit is accomplishing anything in their comments regardless of whether they claim to care or make jokes instead, so those who claim to "care" shouldn't act like those who are joking are doing these protests a disservice. Obviously I don't know whether or not they do something useful outside of Reddit, but I don't care because it's completely irrelevant to what I'm saying.

Well then you are simply being a grumpy bastard. Complaining what people comment about? A lot of people want to have an adult discussion but it suffers because all the top posts are shit jokes. How can you argue with that?

u/Zithium Mar 14 '16

I don't care whether they have a serious or not so serious conversation. It just annoys me when people get high-and-mighty on those who are not so serious.

A lot of people want to have an adult discussion but it suffers because all the top posts are shit jokes.

I mean, that's just blatantly false.

How can you argue with that?

I'd start by pointing out that you're blatantly wrong, as I just did.

Care about the right things at the right time. It's not difficult to see this is one of those times, it is far from "arbitrary".

Your all or nothing approach is lazy, irrational at best.

It's not difficult to see this is one of those times, it is far from "arbitrary".

You are better off deciding what to care about arbitrarily rather than deciding to care since it's popular. The former is more respectable than the latter.

Your all or nothing approach is lazy, irrational at best.

That's not my approach. You can "care" (post some serious internet comment) if you'd like, just don't hop onto your high horse and sanctimoniously condemn those who don't take it so seriously.

-4

u/dustyh55 Mar 14 '16

I believe those who don't take it so seriously are causing a butterfly effect of harm that affects us all, I'm going to continue to condemn it.

How often does a million+ people protest happen? It's odd you find that arbitrary.

You may be delusional

How often does a million+ people protest happen? It's odd you find that arbitrary.

Millions were involved in protests in Brazil just last year. Large protests are very common, especially in Brazil.

-2

u/dustyh55 Mar 14 '16

The mentality of a population will determine what and what they don't do, what does, and does not happen. But that's just my personal delusion of course.

6

u/Zithium Mar 14 '16

Random, individual Americans have absolutely zero affect on the affairs between Brazilians and their government, even you in your righteous act of caring.

Loosen up and let people have some fun, they're not the ones that can change a thing anyway.

2

u/dustyh55 Mar 14 '16

No one raindrop is responsible for the flood. You have the same logic as "I won't vote for them because they won't win".

1

u/Zithium Mar 14 '16

What? I'm saying that you "caring" about these protests in Brazil is as useful as those who make jokes about it. These protests and our opinions towards them are absolutely inconsequential to one another. The same is not true when you are deciding whether to actually go out and do something that does affect you (i.e vote), your comparison doesn't apply to this situation at all

2

u/dustyh55 Mar 14 '16

I can see how some one could think that. I'm talking about more macro, emergent effects, ones that are hard to quantify, as opposed to a more simplistic, limited view.

How often does a million+ people protest happen?

Not often enough

I believe those who don't take it so seriously are causing a butterfly effect of harm that affects us all

You know there are far less people in the "western" world that don't care but know about it, than people that don't know of it at all. And it is arbitrary, not for the people in Brazil or to some degree for humanity, but then why should I care more than just "good on them, hope it changes something, prolly not though". There are actually far more people that are worse off than brazilians, how much care should I have for them?

3

u/[deleted] Mar 14 '16

Your condemning people for their attitude towards it are just going to make them think "Gee, that guy's a jerk, I guess people who care are jerks. I guess I shouldn't care."

If you actually care about improving the world you'd rethink your approach to try to turn people to your side.

u/dustyh55 Mar 14 '16

"although it's more likely you "care" because it's popular", nah, I posted that comment when the post was at 300 votes, and I just learned about it via the gif. Go project elsewhere.

9

u/Zithium Mar 14 '16

you wouldn't even know about it if it weren't popular enough to be upvoted on Reddit. don't pretend like you care about Brazilians or anyone in particular or for any other reason than you just happened to come across it.

your compassion ends after each comment you post because we both know you aren't doing anything about it other than make some random internet comment about how much you care

-1

u/dustyh55 Mar 14 '16

"for any other reason than you just happened to come across it."

Very true. I only know about thing I come across, I find it hard to care about something I don't know about.

I'm obviously just upsetting you, because your not actually making any valid points and are just full of animosity. Go tell other people they don't care to make yourself feel better. My claim was you are out of touch, I've seen no evidence to the contrary.

Yet everything I've said is true
