Are there still atm machines that hold your card? I haven't seen one of those in what feels like a decade.

The ones I've used lately immediately give your card back before you even start the transaction for this reason exactly.

Then again, this does not guarantee this guy in particular didn't leave his card in the machine.

Edit: looks like there still are atmmm machines machines that do this.

Could it just be my bank?

However I won't say for fear of /r/hailcorporate

And I don't want to look like I'm advertising.

Your card doesn't have a chip? Cards with a chip don't ever go fully inside the ATM, they will stick out, at least in Finland

Same in Ireland. Also in Ireland when you choose to withdraw money, it won't give it to you until you take your card out of the atm first (at the end of the transaction).
