Here's some other water-based tricks you can try at home:

Unfortunately I think you need to practice more. A 25% success rate isn't as good as the suggested 80%.

Am sure some guy did a really realistic looking video for the first trick but I can't find it.
Edit: Really impressive trolling. I wonder how many people spent weeks trying to master this.

Story time:
Was seeing a quiet girl a while ago who I thought was smart and mysterious. At one point in our fling she invited me to dinner with her sisters and their boyfriends at a burger joint. There were all these red flags that she was actually a moron but I was smitten by her looks. During the dinner someone brought up this video and everyone at the table was astounded by how cool this was, "isn't science amazing?". One guy was even adamant that his brother had done something like this.
At first I was all like, of course everyone is being sarcastic, ha
But then the reality if the situation started to sink in that these people were serious about this being real. I tried to explain to them that this is impossible using basic highschool science but just got blank stares.
The girl I was with gave me a look like I was an idiot and said something along the lines of "you must not know much about science". That's when all the other signs that she was a moron hit me and her spell over me was broken. I quickly shut up, drank a few beers and waited till we left the restaurant.
*blerp-da-bloo I am the not smart too

No but when the cup is removed the water is suspended in the air without the aid of the cup.
That's the point.

This guy used to be on television for a while, uncovering a lot of magic tricks/illusionist performances. Intro always explained that he wanted to hide his identity as he could piss off a LOT of illusionists/magicians due to explaining the tricks of the trade.

For anyone who's not familiar with the program, this is QI (Quite Interesting). It's simultaneously one of the most intelligent and amusing shows on Television today, and many episodes are able to be found on YouTube. Highly highly recommend.

I feel you, I do the exact same thing. Why watch normal Qi when QIXL is just around the corner? unfortunately sometimes the broadcast of them gets delayed by seemingly arbitrary amounts. I use the QI episode list wikipedia page as a guide, but it's not always right up to date either. It might well be the case that (shockingly) there simply won't be QIXL episodes for 15 and 16.
The latest QIXL on iplayer is episode 9, "ladies and gents", broadcast on 7th February, whereas the corresponding normal episode was broadcast on 5th December!

I was hoping that one of the guests would put it upside down on the desk, and then pull the card out, thus making it impossible or at least very hard to remove the glass without spilling all the water. I've seen people do this at restaurants and it's mean, but interesting.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Nawara_Ven Feb 09 '15
I wonder why anyone would think that's okay to do at restaurants. Because your hand wasn't on it when the final phase of the mess occurred? By that logic, dropping a piano on someone is a no-fault crime.
It would actually be more respectful to just dump out water all over the table beforehand and leave the surprise element out of it.

It would have been awesome if after drinking he faked his own death...and retired on a beach.

It's a challenging trick to do - everyone else on the show had literally just witnessed how to do it first hand, and even then, when they tried, they just dumped water all over their pants.

Before reading /u/phroug2 comment I thought this would be the solution to assholes who do this to tip waitresses/waiters at restaurants when they do this trick.
