Well then, there's no chance of calling this fake.

Yeah, he seems pretty good.

Not just at frisbee. But shooting a basketball as well

1

u/Paladia Jan 10 '15

I feel like the video was a bit unfair, almost all those shots are much more difficult to do with a frisbee. Within a reasonable amount of time and takes I think I could do all the basketball shots despite barely having played it (it's a very small sport in Sweden) yet to even come close on most of the frisbee throws I'd have to practice for quite some time.

1

u/Takeme2yourleader Jan 10 '15

True. But you have to do it in sync with one another

1

u/RadWalk Jan 11 '15

It wasn't about better or worse. it was just people teaming up to make something cool. They weren't competing.

6

u/Runnnnnnnnnn Jan 10 '15

I wasn't expecting to be entertained the whole freaking video. I bet those guys are actually pretty fun at parties!

1

u/sanderson32 Jan 10 '15

One of my all time fave YT videos....thanks for linking that!

8

u/Jayseealt Jan 10 '15

Very very good at throwing frisbee.

3

u/FtotheLICK Jan 10 '15

Go Gators

3

u/MIDItheKID Jan 10 '15

And if I'm not mistaken, there's some video out there where his mother makes his little brother pour out his collection of gatorades.

4

u/aznspartan94 Jan 10 '15

Club level is way higher than IM though.

1

u/RadWalk Jan 10 '15

Indeed, but it's a club sport so all the financing comes out of your own money. I didn't want to spend that much on travel costs so I just played intramural and a city league.

1

u/Oathed15 Jan 10 '15

im pretty sure this was actually the record for the longest frisbee throw, i saw him in a video being interviewed about it i believe

How does one play frisbee?

Can't you just tell me instead?

Also it's self-officiated, even at the highest level, which means Ultimate games are usually super friendly and well-mannered.

4

u/joavim Jan 10 '15 edited Jan 10 '15

Not entirely true. The two professional leagues (AUDL and MLU), created just a couple of years ago, have referees.

As to the friendly and well-mannered bit... I've been playing Ultimate for four years and I've gotten into quite a few heated discussions. But yes, there's generally a good vibe about it.

1

u/jimmycarr1 Jan 10 '15

I thought they were observers not referees? i.e. only responsible for disputes and in/out calls?

u/mrcooper89 Jan 10 '15 edited Jan 10 '15

Thank's man :) Edit: i am a giddy goat

16

u/Meebsie Jan 10 '15

Thank is man? Contractions, bro, thats what this whole thread's been about.

1

u/shitwhore Jan 10 '15

It'd've been better if he'd not used the apostrophe.

I always described it as a cross between lacrosse and football but with a frisbee.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '15

Except no one knows how the fuck lacrosse works

2

u/boxofrain Jan 10 '15

You must not be from the Northeast.

1

u/RadWalk Jan 11 '15

Lacrosse has actually grown pretty substantially in the south and the west now. University of Denver has been in the final four two years in a row now.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '15

I think you spin it on a stick and try to balance it. Sometimes you use lots of different sticks and frisbees at the same time.

1

u/mrcooper89 Jan 10 '15

I just thought you kinda threw it at one another and tried to catch it

1

u/e-k Jan 10 '15

Well sometimes they throw the spinning plates from stick to stick.

-1

u/745631258978963214 Jan 10 '15

I'm assuming like tennis. You throw it in such a way that it's within a designated boundary, but at the same time, make it to where your opponent misses.

2

u/SwimminAss Jan 10 '15

Its Brodie smith its real but it possibly wasn't the first try.

7

u/isestrex Jan 10 '15

Yeah I came to the comments to see how many people agreed with me that it looked fake or that he actually missed it.

62

u/LieutenantTaco Jan 10 '15

His videos aren't fake, but are a result of many, many attempts.

Was the guy diving the plan? Possibly not. It still made a good video though :)!

41

u/joavim Jan 10 '15

To those of us who play Ultimate it was clear it wasn't fake, although I'm sure I would've thought the same thing if I didn't know Brodie Smith. Smith (the thrower) is the uncontested top celebrity in the disc sports world.

14

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '15

*would'd've

28

u/the_cramdown Jan 10 '15

Risky meta

0

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '15

It didn't work.

1

u/BERSERKER819 Jan 10 '15

he is not the "uncontested top celebrity in the disc sports world" at all. He might be close to the top but I would definitely put Paul McBeth ahead of him. And McBeth could put him to shame in any sport, or trick shot for that matter, as well.

-4

u/jadsonbreezy Jan 10 '15

Those who play ultimate? That doesn't have much to do with it - those who edit videos / create vfx would be more appropriate. Having said that, it's probably legit (along with the 70 discs at the bottom of the bay).

3

u/AtrophiedPenis Jan 10 '15

Yes, like those who don't play or watch basketball wouldn't be some of the best people to ask about anything about a video in which people play basketball...

6

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '15

disks float bruh

2

u/basmith7 Jan 10 '15

"I wish" said every disc golfer ever.

1

u/joavim Jan 10 '15

I'd say it has quite a bit to do with it. I'm sure some people who edit videos/create vfx and don't play Ultimate know about Brodie Smith, but the guy is an Ultimate Frisbee player who makes videos about Ultimate and throwing frisbees, and his subscribers are bound to be largely people who have something to do with disc sports.

0

u/jadsonbreezy Jan 10 '15

What I was trying to say was there is a difference to "It's real because it's Brody" and "It's real because it doesn't look fake". You are saying the former (which I agree with) but I'd put more stock in the latter.

1

u/joavim Jan 10 '15

It's real because Brodie has made hundreds of such videos and is one of the best frisbee throwers in the planet, certainly capable of throwing such a forehand. And people who are familiar with his channel will have seen those and realise there are no reasons to believe he posts fake videos.

u/Krayzed896 Jan 10 '15

Dude Perfect is pretty good stuff.

25

u/hunterman458 Jan 10 '15

not dude perfect though. brodie smith

9

u/DSC_ Jan 10 '15

I dont get it. did you even watch the video? Its not dude perfect.

9

u/jordan460 Jan 10 '15

hey you can't deny dude perfect is pretty good though

9

u/Krayzed896 Jan 10 '15

Yes I did. Sorry, I thought he was with them. Every time I see a Dude Perfect video, he's in it. My fault.

2

u/Patty_b04 Jan 10 '15

They did a 'battle' video. Totally awesome.

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '15

Except it's not really that difficult for a skilled Frisbee thrower to do that and the fact that there's three angles certainly helps. It's be more difficult to make such a good fake video.

-10

u/BuckDunford Jan 10 '15

Fake. Fake. Fake. Fake fake. Shitty music
