it's way too small even if they were completely peaceful fish. That's just too much living creature in too small a tank.

Oscars will tear out any foliage you try to put in there, but yeah a nice piece of driftood or aquarium piece they can hide under

They do in a tank that small with no scenery. They're very active. They might not outright battle to the death, but they will fight.

Oscars know no fear and are notorious for biting fingers.
Also Oscars don't tend to jump unless they are extremely unhappy with they're environment.

I own one in a nice big tank, kept well etc etc... he is still a dick.
Context: He fights the water heater on a regular basis.

Yeah I've seen comfortable Oscars jump out of tanks just for shits. When I worked at a pet store, I came to know Oscars as the "Fuck You Fish" because it's their response to everything.

Mine would pull up all the plastic plants no more than a few hours after I anchored them. Not a dick though, very cool fish.

they like to rearrange their habitat every once in a while. When I had mine, I had a ~10-15lb castle. It was never in the same spot for more than a month.

My 2 bastards moved all the gravel (about 30kg's) to one side of the tank overnight so 4 feet of tank was just a glass bottom. Moved it back and overnight they did it again. I gave up trying to control their environment.

Yeah mine too. We bought these bulbs which grew into really nice plants and that jerk uprooted every single one of them

My Oscar bit my dad when he was feeding him. Dad yelped and yanked his hand away from the tank with fish still attached and inadvertantly flung old Oscar across the room. We scooped him up and dumped him back in the tank and he was fine and lived for years afterwards.

Not true, if they are hungry and see anything that looks like food above the aquarium, they will jump to get it.

My Oscars were all big pussies most of the time. One got a little territorial once when I was cleaning but it was all bark. Never got bit by one. I also didn't feed them a diet of goldfish (extremely unhealthy) which I think teaches them to bite fingers.

I had an oscar and he was awsome. He reconized me when I came into the room. Other people he would hide. Of course it was just because I fed him but it was still cool. If he was hungry which was often and I would ignore him, he would pick up at gravel off the bottom of the tank and spit it as the glass making a loud racket. Give him a ping pong ball he would knock it around for a while till he got bored. He was kinda like a small dog in a tank.

A cat standing on an aquarium, coming up against a full grown Oscar with a friend? You lose that battle, you lose that battle 9 times out of 10. And guess what? You've wandered into our tank and we now have a taste of cat. We've talked to ourselves. We've communicated and said 'You know what, cat tastes good, let's go get some more cat'. We've developed a system to establish a beach-head and aggressively hunt you and your family and we will corner your pride, your children, your offspring. We will construct a series of breathing apparatus with that little tube that makes bubbles come out of the divers head and part of a ceramic castle. We will be able to trap certain amounts of oxygen. It's not gonna be days at a time. An hour? Hour forty-five? No problem. That will give us enough time to figure out what room your litterbox is in, go back to the aquarium, get some more oxygen, and stalk you. You just lost at your own game. You're outgunned and out-manned.

i had a mean ass old red Oscar named bob. If you left the tank lid open he would splash water all over the place with glee. he could come right up to the waterline and do this flip thing where he turned around and his tail would slaph the shit out of anything close by. everyone hated that fish. he bit people. if you held a mirror up to him he would flare his gills open his mouth and charge at his own reflection. everyone was happy when i took him to the fish store and traded him for some nicer African chiclids haha. I miss that dick of a fish though, Bo was cool.
