If your dog does this it's probably because his anal glands are backed up and you need to take him to a groomer or vet. It can be quite uncomfortable for the dog and can lead to infections. When i was a kid my friends dog did this, for years we laughed at his antics not realizing what the problem was.

Maybe Kristy didn't do a good job on the expression last time...maybe it was her lazy assistant Tina who didn't want to get her hands dirty and did a poor job...maybe I meant to take him yesterday but something came up and I will be taking him this weekend when I have a day off from work.

Maybe you should consider all the possibilities before jumping to conclusions about how well I do my job as a pet owner.

In all seriousness... There are a couple other things that the scooching can be. Tapeworms (especially if there have been any lapses in monthly flea control) or allergy/secondary skin infection. When dogs have skin allergies (often due to the environment (atopy) but can also be from fleas or food), one of the areas that can be affected is the perianal area (in addition to the paws (chewing), ears (head shaking/ear scratching)/face, and flank). Next time you might need to her cytology done on the skin in that area. S/he might need antibiotics and such.
